More human remains were found in Lake Mead this week as the water reservoir located outside Las Vegas continues to experience drought.

According to AFP, a third body was found on Monday when park rangers responded that afternoon to a witness who reported to have seen a body at Swim Beach.

Sky News reported that the human remains found on Monday were discovered partially encased in the mud at the water line of the swimming area, located north of Hemenway Harbor marina in Boulder City, Nevada. It was unclear how long the body was submerged in the waters of Lake Mead.

Clark County Coroner Melanie Rouse on Tuesday said that it is too soon to determine the gender of the human remains discovered this week. Furthermore, the cause of death and the time the body died were still unclear.

Authorities are now set to conduct an autopsy on the body discovered on Monday.

Other Human Remains Found in Lake Mead

On May 1, other skeletal remains emerged from Lake Mead. The said remains were found inside a barrel in Hemenway Harbor. Lt. Ray Spencer previously claimed that the remains belonged to a man who was likely shot and killed sometime between the mid-'70s and early '80s based on the shoes worn by the human remains.

According to reports, it is being investigated as a homicide after police determined that the remains showed a shot in his clothing.

Investigators are considering that the death of the said man may have been related to the mafia.

"I would say there is a very good chance as the water level drops that we are going to find additional human remains," Spencer noted.

Meanwhile, on May 9, the National Park Service reported that a witness found skeletal remains in Calville Bay.

Lake Mead's Water Level Decreases Over Drought - NASA Photo

Last week, NASA released photographs showing the difference between Lake Mead's water levels in 2000 and 2022.

One photo of the space agency showed that Lake Mead in 2000 still has a healthy water basin near the Overton Arm of the reservoir. However, the latest photo showed a devastating decline in the reservoir's water level, revealing some parts that were previously submerged in water.

The photo also showed that the northern portion of the lake appeared to be completely dried up.

Lake Mead, a reservoir of Hoover Dam, is known to be the world's largest man-made lake in the world. The water from the said lake comes from the Colorado River.

As of last week, the entire system's water level is at 35%.

The federal government called on states that rely on Lake Mead for water to impose measures to cut water use.
