California Wildfire Today: 2 Victims Burned to Death After Failed Attempt to Escape McKinney Fire

The largest California wildfire today continues to serve its wrath, as McKinney Fire claimed the lives of two people, since the blaze ignited on Friday last week.

According to Associated Press, the two bodies were found inside a charred vehicle in a driveway of a wildfire zone of McKinney Fire, per ABC News.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the two bodies were found on Sunday in a driveway of a residence near the remote community of Klamath River.

The condition of the corpses found on Sunday was not mentioned by the authorities. Furthermore, their identities were still unclear as of Monday.

California Wildfire Today: 2 Arrested in Evacuation Area

On early Monday morning, sheriff's deputies announced that two were arrested in an evacuation area amid the McKinney Fire that continues to scorch in Siskiyou County.

According to Sacramento Bee, one was arrested over suspicion of possessing burglary tools, and the other one was arrested for burglary inside a closed disaster area.

"California law defines the crime of looting as taking advantage of a state of emergency to commit burglary, grand theft, or petty theft," Yreka Police said in a statement. The department added that looting and entry inside the evacuation zone will not be tolerated and will be handled accordingly by all their officers.

As of Saturday, around 2,000 residents were forced to evacuate, per CNN. On Sunday, 500 hundred homes were also forced to be evacuated in the aftermath of the McKinney Fire.

Around 60 hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail on California's side of the Red Buttes were assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue as well as Rogue Valley Transportation District personnel in Oregon.

An evacuation was set up in the Weed Community Center at 161 E. Lincoln Ave. Moreover, officials also began compiling a list of missing or found animals amid the wildfire.

California Wildfire Today: McKinney Fire Update

As of Monday the largest California wildfire today, also known as McKinney Fire, has expanded to over 55,000 acres, still with no containment.

It can be recalled that the blaze started at the Klamath National Forest, specifically at Highway 96 and McKinney Creek Road, located southwest of the Klamath River.

Firefighters from all over Bay Area were summoned on Monday to respond to the McKinney Fire. Alameda County Fire said that their crew was reassigned to McKinney Fire eight days after working at the Oak Fire in Yosemite National Park.

The San Francisco Fire Department also noted that they sent crews to respond to California's largest wildfire today.

The National Weather Service said that "abundant lightning" is expected as well as scattered thunderstorms through Monday, which could spread flames out further.

Red flag warnings were imposed on several states, including some parts of northern California, central Oregon, and eastern Washington, due to the McKinney Fire.
