SNAP Benefits 2022: Does Your EBT Payment Disappear If You Don't Use it in 1 Month?
SNAP benefits 2022 has been extended in several states with emergency allotments authorized under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
The program addresses the food needs of SNAP households during the pandemic.
Go Banking Rates noted that benefits are deposited onto the Electronic Benefits Transfer cards on a predetermined date by the states distributing the benefits of the program.
Emergency allotment amounts are equal to the maximum benefit of the household not counting their monthly base benefit, according to the Department of Agriculture.
With EBT payments being released on a monthly basis, what will happen to your SNAP benefits if they remained unspent until another emergency allotment comes the following month?
Department of Agriculture noted that any recipients that have remaining money on their EBT card at the end of the month will have those benefits rolled over the next month.
If recipients have not used up all their benefits in one month, they can just use them the next month or hold on to them for when the SNAP benefits are needed.

States may choose to continue to hand out monthly EA as long as there is a national public health emergency in place, with a state that has a state-level emergency declaration in place.
Public health emergencies are extended for 90 days at a time, with the current PHE set to expire on October 13, according to another Go Banking Rates report.
Some states have extended their EA for the month of August 2022, with eligible school children and children in child care programs may also set to receive temporary emergency food assistance during the upcoming summer months.
States that have been approved to operate a P-EBT program during summer 2022 including extending the SNAP allotments through August are Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, and Washington among others.

EBT cards can be used at checkout in grocery stores, major retailers, and participating farmers' markets just like a debit card
Recipients must ensure to enter their PIN to complete the transaction.
Benefits can be used to procure allowed food items including seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat.
However, food stamps cannot be used for alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, vitamins, medicines, supplements, and nonfood items.
California uses the EBT system for the delivery and redemption of issued public assistance benefits such as CalFresh, CalWORKs, and other food and cash benefits based on California's Department of Social Service's fact sheet.
Recipients can protect their EBT payments by never giving out their personal information to anyone; keeping their EBT card number and PIN a secret; and not giving out their social security number, EBT card number, or PIN.
If contacted about your EBT account, one should not provide any personal information. However, if you think your benefits are stolen you contact your county social services agency.
