SNAP Benefits 2022: $305.5 Million Budget Set for Texans This August, at least $95 Guaranteed
SNAP Benefits Texas extension for the month of August 2022 through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, as announced by Texas Gov Greg Abbott.
Abbott's office issued a press release noting that the HHSC is providing more than $305.5 million in emergency SNAP benefits in the state for August, which is seen to help about 1.5 million Texas households. Abbott noted that it is "imperative that every family" in the state of Texas can access nutritious food.
Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services Deputy Executive Commissioner Wayne Salter said that nutrition plays a vital role in the lives of Texans. Salter added that they are proud to continue providing nourishment to families with healthy foods.
All SNAP benefits household recipients will get a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments, with the EA allotment set to appear in recipients' accounts by August 31.
The SNAP benefits for the month of August will be provided on top of more than $7.6 billion in benefits previously provided to Texans since April 2020.

SNAP Benefits Texas
The SNAP benefits in the state of Texas are distributed every month and deposited onto Texas Lone Star Cards, which is the state's Electronic Benefits Transfer cards.
Go Banking Rates reported that SNAP benefits in Texas are administered by the state's HHSC. The benefits can be used to procure foods and seeds, including plants to grow food.
Participating grocery stores or retailers accept the Texas Lone Star Card. Recipients should select "EBT" as their payment method when using their EBT cards.
Texas residents can also check their SNAP benefits balance and view recent card activity through an online account at YourTexasBenefits.com.
The August schedule for SNAP benefits in Texas follows the last digit of the recipients' Eligibility Determination Group number, which always starts on the 1st of every month.
SNAP EDG number that ends in 0 are set to receive their benefits on August 1; for those ending in 1, they will receive theirs on August 3. The scheduling will continue until August 15.
SNAP Benefits 2022
Emergency allotments for SNAP benefits were allowed under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, according to a Yahoo News report.
Agriculture Department noted that EA amounts are equal to the maximum benefit for the household size, without including their monthly base benefit.
Households that are at or near the maximum SNAP benefit receive little or no additional support.
States may also choose to continue providing EA as long as there is a national public health emergency imposed. Public health emergencies are extended for 90 days at a time, with the current PHE set to end on October 13.
Other states and territories that are seen to extend SNAP benefits allotments through August include Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico, Ohio, and Washington among others.
Meanwhile, eligible school children and children in child care programs are also expected to receive temporary emergency food assistance in the summer months.
