MTV's ‘TRL’ Returns for Show With Ariana Grande as Host
Arguably one of music's most influential television programs is making a comeback to MTV.
We're talking about MTV's "Total Request Live."
On Wednesday, MTV reported that for one day only, pop star Ariana Grande along with host Sway Calloway would bring back the legendary show.
So what date should fans mark their calendars for this monumental event?
Mark your calendars for July 2, 2014 at 7 p.m. EST kids.
MTV News reports that the one-day-only re-vamped TRL show will be called "Total Ariana Live."
It will feature the pint-sized star getting candid about her latest hit single "Problem," featuring Iggy Azalea.
Grande will also debut her new single, "Break Free," and make a surprise announcement on the show.
Sway Calloway will not only act as host for the special episode, he will also be interviewing Grande about her highly anticipated sophomore album.
Sway also plans to shake things up by having Ariana play a game called, "Hip Hop Mix Up," where she will spin two giant wheels that includes song titles and vocal styles (like Country or Valley Girl).
Depending on where the wheel lands, Ariana will then have to sing the song in the chosen style.
"It's a huge honor to be able to bring back a show like 'TRL,' I used to love watching it growing up," Ariana said in statement. "Can't wait to celebrate with my loves in Times Square. Might have some surprises too..."
Ariana isn't the only one that's excited about the TRL reboot. Charlie Walk of Republic Records told MTV that Ariana Grande is the perfect choice to bring back the "iconic" show.
"Only one artist has the power to turn the lights back on at 1515 Broadway in the iconic 'TRL' studios, and that's Ariana Grande," said Walk. "The transformation to 'Total Ariana Live' represents her one-of-a-kind star power combined with MTV's immense multimedia platform, setting the stage for the ultimate global partnership."
