SNAP benefits 2022 in Nevada has taken a different turn for its recipients when the state no longer declared a COVID-19 health emergency.

The Division of Welfare and Supportive Service had received additional funds due to the emergency allotments brought by the COVID-19 health emergency declaration.

My News 4 reported that it provided an additional 15 percent in financial assistance for families who depend on food stamps.

SNAP benefits policy and program administrator, Kelly Cantrelle, noted that the loss of funds will negatively affect families in Nevada, losing hundreds of dollars. 

With the state withdrawing the emergency allotments, families eligible for $100 will get just that. Cantrelle said that as an example, families that are for $100 eligible and provided with emergency allotments usually get up to $250.

Ashley Prickett, a mother of five, said she is eligible for $200 and usually gets a total of $700 with the emergency allotments. Pricket stated that removing the extra funding is "a bad time" as every product in the grocery store "is so expensive."

The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services reiterated that the emergency allotments were never permanent and the loss was "inevitable."

SNAP Benefits Nevada

In August, Nevada passed the $1 billion funding for emergency allotments in SNAP benefits in the state. Residents of Nevada have received a raise to their benefits since April 2020 due to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, according to the state's press release. Emergency allotment benefits for July 2022 were released on August 6 to around 234,000 households.

Robert Thompson, the administrator of the Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services, said that the benefits have erased food insecurity for several Nevada families.

Other states that have also extended the emergency allotments for SNAP benefits such as Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio, and Washington, among others.

SNAP Benefits Las Vegas

To be eligible to SNAP benefits in Las Vegas, Nevada, one must have a current bank balance under $2,001 or have a current bank balance under $3,001 and share their household with a person with a disability or person/s aged 60 and over.

Benefits Explorer noted certain documents may be needed for food stamp application such as social security numbers, proof of citizenship, and/or Alien Status. Applicants must also provide proof of residence, proof of income, and expenses. They must also provide the names of all individuals living in the household.

In addition, there might be additional information that might be required from you during your application. All adult applicants for the food stamps program should agree to be part of employment training programs and work. Those with mental or physical disabilities or age will be exempted from this rule.

 The EBT Food Stamp Program in Las Vegas will require qualified recipients to be part of the Employment First Program.
