A Texas woman went viral after she was captured on video while doing a racist rant against a woman of South Asian descent in a suburban Dallas parking lot.

The woman was identified as Esmeralda Upton, 58, of Plano, Texas. Her rant was another example of anti-Asian hate seen spreading across the United States.

Esmeralda Upton Told Women to "Go Back to India!"

The incident happened on Wednesday, shortly after 8:00 p.m. outside Sixty Vines. According to CBS News, the women were just having dinner at Sixty Vines and were about to head home. It was at the parking lot when the drunk Upton approached them and went on her viral racist rant.

The video showed that Upton, who claimed to be of Mexican descent herself, was using racial slurs at the women.

"Go back to India. You curry people are ruining this country," said Upton in the viral rant.

The incident even got physical, as she can be seen physically smacking at least two of the women.

According to the Associated Press, the Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the attack. Faizan Syed, executive director of CAIR-DFW, said that the rant that led to a physical assault from Upton is "truly appalling." He added that this type of hate has no place in North Texas, and he called on authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime.

The video was posted on Facebook by one of the women, Rani Banerjee. Her original post received over 233,000 views and over 4,500 reactions. However, it was widely circulated and shared across several social media platforms.

It is not clear if the women of South Asian descent interacted with Upton prior to her assault, or who prompted the incident. However, according to one of the women, "an angry, drunk woman" just approached them in the parking lot, hurling racial slurs.

Woman Responsible for Racist Attack Arrested

The next day after the video was uploaded to social media, Plano police arrested Esmeralda Upton. They charged her with Assault leading to Bodily Injury, as well as terroristic threats.

The Plano Police Department also posted her arrest photo on social media and announced that she is being held on a bond of $10,000. They also revealed that their Crime Against Persons Unit is also investigating the incident as a hate crime. Because of this, Upton may be facing additional charges.

The women whom Upton attacked declined to comment any further as they have been advised to keep their silence while the matter is now under police investigation.

This is the latest act of racial violence in Texas against those of Asian descent. It came just a few weeks after a man accused of shooting three Asian-American women at a salon in Dallas was indicted, with hate crime among the many charges levied against him.
