Florida Police Says Registered Sex Offender Tried to Buy Girl From Parents for $100,000 at Grocery Store
Florida police noted that a man, who is already known to be a registered sex offender, had tried to buy a girl from her parents for $100,000 at a local grocery store.
Law and Crime reported that the man was identified as Hellmuth Kolb, 85. He was on the sex offender registry for a 2018 charge of false imprisonment of a child under age 13. The records showed in that case that Kolb pleaded nolo contendere.
Kolb was at a local grocery store on August 16 and tried to buy a female minor for $100,000 from her parents.
The police were notified after their concern that someone was insistent on trying to buy their daughter in a grocery store.
The police said in a statement posted on Facebook that The Port Orange Police Department's Special Investigations Unit responded to Sterling Chase Drive in Port Orange and that officers arrested Kolb in the area.

Police noted that Kolb is on probation for the same issues. He was also ordered not to have any contact with minor children, according to a Fox News report.
The police noted in the Facebook post that Kolb "should have simply stuck to just grocery shopping."
They added that Kolb received a "complimentary ride in one of our air-conditioned police cars, and a free stay at Hotel 92," referring to Volusia County Branch Jail where the 85-year-old sex offender was detained.
Police opened an investigation regarding the incident after the parents had reported Kolb trying to purchase their daughter.
In 2018, Kolb was arrested on a battery charge after he was accused of touching a girl's arm inside a Walmart at Port Orange. He reportedly said that the girl's skin was soft "like ice cream."
The arrest report noted that the mother walked her child away and the child's father intervened.
Sex Offender's Charge in 2018
A Fox 35 Orlando 2018 report noted that the mother, Tracy Nigh, calls 911 and told operators that she had a man approach her and tried to offer her $100,000 for her daughter. Nigh said they tried to walk away but Kolb grabbed her daughter, who was eight years old at the time.
Kolb reportedly touched the eight year old's leg and grabbed her arm and kissed it when the child was trying to get away from him. Nigh said that it was very shocking, adding that it was being done in the public eye.
The mother of the eight-year-old child said that her daughter has not been able to sleep since they learned that the sex offender got out on bond.
Kolb's neighbor, Ron Allsop, said that they hoped it was just a misunderstanding as in the neighborhood, Kolb was a good guy. Allsop added that Kolb is a "gentleman, as far as we know."
Kolb reportedly told police that he remembers meeting Nigh and her daughter, saying that the little girl was very pretty.
The 85-year-old said that he does not remember grabbing the girl. However, police noted that Walmart caught the incident on surveillance video.
