Nelson Mandela's Grandson Slams Meghan Markle, Says Overcoming 60 Years of Apartheid Not Same as Marrying 'White Prince'
Nelson Mandela's grandson lambasted Meghan Markle after her interview with The Cut was released.
In Markle's The Cut interview for her cover story published Monday, the Duchess of Sussex claimed that she was told by a cast member of the "Lion King" in 2019 that South Africans "danced in the street" when she married Harry, like what they did when "Mandela was freed from prison."
However, Mandela's grandson, Zwelivelile 'Mandla' Mandela, questioned the remarks. He said it cannot be compared to "the celebration of someone's wedding," according to Express News.
Zwelivelile noted that the celebration of Mandela's freedom was based on "overcoming 350 years of colonialism with 60 years of a brutal apartheid regime in South Africa."
Thus, he said the wedding and Madiba's celebration cannot be the same, adding that every day there are people who want to be Mandela.
British commentator Nile Gardiner noted that Mandela's grandson's statement was another "PR catastrophe for Meghan Markle."

Nelson Mandela's Grandson Reacts to Meghan Markle's Statement
Nelson Mandela's grandson told Daily Mail that when the people of South Africa rejoiced for his grandfather's release, it was a far more serious reason than Meghan Markle's marriage "to a white prince."
Zwelivelile, an African National Congress MP and chief of the late president's Mvezo tribe, advised everyone to live the life Mandela lived and support the causes he supported.
Markle with Prince Harry had met the widow of Mandela, Graca Machel, on the last day of their Africa tour in 2019.
Markle's claim and comparison have enraged critics, telling her to "get lost" while accusing her of showing "utmost disrespect."
Royal expert Angela Levin also took a jab at Markle's statement, saying that it was not a surprise that Mandela's grandson scrutinized Meghan Markle when she compared her wedding to Mandela's release from prison.
Twitter users were also quick to comment on Markle's claim, with a hashtag including #VoetsekMeghan. Voetsek means "go away" or "get lost" in Afrikaans.
A Twitter user said "no one was rejoining" when she got married, adding that implying that was "the utmost disrespect."
One critic noted that comparing her marriage to Nelson Mandela's release was a "pompous" and "arrogant" statement.
Meghan Markle's The Cut Interview
According to Tatler, Meghan Markle's The Cut interview has revealed that she was planning a possible return to Instagram.
The Sussex couple stopped using their official Instagram account after they left the royal family in March.
They earlier said that they would not be returning to social media in light of online bullying the Duchess of Sussex experienced.
The interview also provided a sneak peek of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's California home in the background of video calls and interviews.
There were also suggestions that Markle is open to possible biographical Netflix series. Reports of ties to director Liz Garbus have triggered rumors that there would be a documentary series that would show Harry and Markle's lives.
