Donald Trump for President: Ex-POTUS Could Delay 2024 Campaign Decision Amid Major Troubles
Former President Donald Trump has not been shy about wanting to run for president again. However, as his legal troubles mount, he may be rethinking his choices as the 2024 presidential elections loom.
Sources familiar with Trump have told CNN that originally, Trump had been eyeing launching his 2024 campaign on Labor Day weekend. However, the former president might be reconsidering things because of his recent legal troubles. This includes the January 6 committee and the Georgia election tampering investigations. Trump Organization also faces civil and criminal cases in the state of New York. His most recent debacle surrounds his mishandling of classified documents. Some of his Senatorial picks recently also turned out to be not as strong as he had hoped.
CNN noted that the former president may be nervous about prematurely diving into the 2024 campaign, as he has spent weeks backing away from the Labor Day announcement following the FBI search of classified documents at his home at Mar-a-Lago.
Donald Trump Getting Differing Arguments From Advisers
As Trump weighs in on his options as his legal issues mount, reports state that the opinions he had been getting from his advisers had been varied. Many believe that while he will be the undisputed front-runner regardless of when he announces, some advisers believe he might run out of money by the time of the convention should the announcement of his bid come too early.
Another Trump adviser has told the former president to address the legal fallout from the FBI search first and then think about launching the campaign later.
Should he announce early, Trump might also be blamed for potential Republican losses during the upcoming midterms, as his legal troubles might distract from some of the issues that Republicans want to discuss. This is especially true as several Trump-backed Senate candidates in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Arizona struggle against their Democratic opponents.
A pre-midterm announcement could also be "weaponized" by Democrats as Trump remains a good campaign foil, directly tying their Republican opponents to the embattled former president.
However, many in Trump World still want him to announce his run early. One person close to Trump merely dismissed the mounting issues as "excuses." According to CNN, the source said that better announce now because they were going to blame him no matter what.

Trump's Various Legal Battles
While his base remains loyal, the majority of Americans, particularly Independents and Democrats, may not be all that fond of Donald Trump. With his legal woes mounting, he might turn off even more people. His associates, including his lawyer and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Senator Lindsey Graham, are also facing legal scrutiny, and this might affect his election chances.
His most pressing legal issue, however, remains the January 6 insurrection, which goes along with Georgia's election tampering investigations. Both issues are linked, as both are looking into Trump's and his allies' attempt to overturn the 2020 elections results.
Georgia specifically is looking into the phone calls of Trump, Giuliani, and Graham to the state's Republican leaders, trying to garner more votes. Meanwhile, the January 6 Committee is looking into the general picture leading up to the attempted coup and takeover of the U.S. Capitol building by Trump supporters.
His latest is his current trouble with the FBI and National Archives, which suggest that he may have kept nuclear documents that he should not have kept after leaving the presidency. When the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, the inventory of items taken included the highest classification of top-secret documents, among others.
While the raid galvanized his base, using it as a rallying cry for his cause and to strengthen his upcoming presidential campaign, the recent revelations have shown that Trump may be in more legal trouble than many have thought.
