Queen Elizabeth II Dead: What Will Happen to the Queen’s Corgis Now?
Queen Elizabeth II's corgis have found a new home after she passed away earlier this week.
Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson will reportedly take care of Queen Elizabeth II's two dogs.
The Queen's two Pembroke Welsh corgis, Muick and Sandy, will now reside at the Royal Lodge in Windsor with the Duke and Duchess of York.
Prince Andrew and his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, gifted Muick and Sandy to the Queen last year.
Where Will Queen Elizabeth II Corgis Go After Her Death?
A source close to the Duke of York told CNN on Sunday that Sandy and Muick (pronounced Mick) will be running around the halls of the Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate in Berkshire, England, with the Duke and Duchess of York.
In 2021, Prince Andrew gifted Sandy and another dog named Fergus, a cross breed of a corgi and a dachshund. However, when Prince Philip passed away last year, Fergus died a month later.
On the Queen's 95th birthday, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah, gifted Muick, bringing the late Queen's corgi at the time to three - Sandy, Fergus, and Muick.
"The corgis will return to live at Royal Lodge with the Duke and Duchess. It was the Duchess who found the puppies, which were gifted to Her Majesty by the Duke," a source told PEOPLE.
Sarah, also known as Fergie, remained close to Prince Andrew and his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, despite their divorce in 1996.
Fergie has "bonded" with the Queen over horse-riding and dog-walking even after their controversial divorce. She had continued walking the dogs with the Queen in Frogmore while chatting.
The Royal Family and Their Corgis
Like in the United States, dogs are key members of the royal family. The love for dogs of the monarch stemmed back from Queen Elizabeth II's father, King George VI, who had a corgi named Dookie.
Queen Elizabeth was gifted Susan, also a corgi, on her 18th birthday. Susan made a long line of dogs for the royal family, with the last of the line dying in 2018.
Sugar, Myth, Mint, Whisky, Sherry, Smoky, Dash, Buzz, Brush, Geordie, Dime, Disco, and Dipper, were some of the corgis that Queen Elizabeth owned throughout the years.
During the 2012 sketch of the Queen with Daniel Craig on the London Olympics, Monty, Willow, and Holly were the three dogs featured.
According to The Guardian, the late Princess Diana called the corgis "moving carpets" who lived in wicker baskets in cushions at the Royal household - all fed by a gourmet chef with fresh beef and rabbit.
Last June, the world saw the Queen's love for her corgis after inviting 70 dogs to the Balmoral and a Musselburgh Corgi Derby.
Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at her residence at the Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on Thursday at age 96.
On Sunday, her coffin left the residence and was transported to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
