SNAP Benefits Update: How to Use Your EBT Card to Shop at Walmart Online
SNAP benefits can be used in participating retail stores and farmers' markets. But the purchasing power of your EBT card, also known as Electronic Benefits Transfer, does not stop there.
Recipients of SNAP benefits can also use their EBT cards to pay for groceries or food products purchased online, with 48 states allowing the use of it to pay for Walmart delivery and pickup orders online, as reported by Go Banking Rates.
All states excluding Alaska and Montana accept EBT card payments online. However, cardholders in these areas can use their card at pickup.
Only eligible food may be purchased with SNAP benefits, and delivery fees and other related charges may not be paid for with SNAP benefits.
Other retailers that launched the SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot include Amazon, Dash's Market, Fresh Direct, and Safeway among others.

SNAP Benefits Walmart
To use your EBT card for Walmart purchases, you must sign in to your Walmart pickup and delivery account and select Payment Methods.
Walmart noted that if your local store accepts EBT online purchases, recipients can see an option to add your EBT card to your account.
Recipients can use their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits once they have successfully added their card information to their Walmart account.
New York was the first state to offer the Online Purchasing Program for SNAP in 2019. Washington state followed in 2020, which was followed soon after by Iowa, Oregon, and Alabama.
The Department of Agriculture noted that there are a few items that you cannot use your SNAP benefits to buy anywhere, even at Walmart, according to a Yahoo Finance report. It includes alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, vitamins, hot foods, and other non-food items such as pet foods, household supplies, hygiene items, and cosmetics.
SNAP Benefits and EBT Card
Amazon also offers recipients the option to pay their purchases with EBT on Amazon in all U.S. states.
However, Amazon does not offer the same service for Alaska, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Montana.
EBT cardholders do not need to avail of the Prime membership to shop on Amazon Fresh. However, heavily discounted Prime Service is available to other qualifying customers, according to a Stand Up Wireless report.
Safeway also offers online EBT payments and pickup services in Alaska, Washington, California, Colorado, Arizona, Maryland, Hawaii, New Mexico, Virginia, and Oregon.
The largest food retailer in New Jersey, ShopRite, also accepts EBT for online grocery buys. Some locations offer delivery and in-store pickup options while other areas only offer the use of EBT cards for in-store pickup.
ShopRite offers the service in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania, aside from New Jersey.
In Texas, H-E-B accepts EBT cards for online orders of goods. However, they do not offer delivery but recipients can pick up their order curbside at the nearest H-E-B branch near you.
Independent local grocers also offer the same service, such as Wright's Market in Alabama, Woods Supermarket in Missouri, and Town & Country Market for Indiana residents.
