Armed members of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel invaded a bar in Mexico's Guanajuato state and killed at least 10 people inside.

According to Infobae, the gunmen arrived at the El Jarras bar at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. They then started spraying bullets inside and left narco messages attributing the attack to the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel.

The messages also cited the leader of the cartel, Jose Antonio Yépez Ortíz, alias "El Marro." Initially, nine people were reported to have died from the attack.

However, that number was updated after one of the victims, who was rushed to a hospital, died. The gunmen had also managed to record the attack and posted it on social media:

Violence in Mexico's Guanajuato State as Mexican Drug Cartels Vie For Supremacy

The attack comes a week after 10 women were killed in a span of 72 hours across Guanajuato state in Mexico. Local media reported that four women were murdered in Celaya city, two in Leon, and one each in San Miguel de Allende, Uriangato, Irapuato, and Yuriria municipalities.

Five of these women were shot and found on the same day. No one has been detained yet for these crimes. A man was also shot dead while standing at the entrance of his home at San Francisco del Rincón in Guanajuato last week.

According to local reports, some armed men riding on motorcycles approached him and suddenly shot him several times. The man tried to get inside the house to avoid the bullets. However, he was still shot on different parts of his body.

The man was already dead when the police arrived. Authorities said the victim was between 30 and 35 years old. This shows how violent the state has become, as it has grown to be a battleground between the Mexican drug cartels operating in the area.

Santa Rosa De Lima Cartel and Jalisco Cartel in Mexico's State of Guanajuato

Guanajuato is currently the most violent state in Mexico by murder count due to disputes between Mexican drug cartels. The state has recorded more than 1,560 homicide cases so far this year.

Mexican drug cartels like the home-grown Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel and the Jalisco cartel are reportedly fighting for control of trafficking routes for drugs and stolen fuel.

The bloodbath in Guanajuato reportedly started in 2018 when the Jalisco New Generation Cartel or Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) moved into the state. Reports said the CJNG has already killed hundreds of Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel members.

The Jalisco cartel is infamous for its public displays of violence and military power. According to the U.S. State Department, the Jalisco cartel is one of the most violent drug trafficking organizations currently operating in Mexico, with "the highest cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine trafficking capacity."

Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera is currently leading the Jalisco cartel. The U.S. government has offered a $10 million reward for information leading to his arrest as he continues to evade capture. The Jalisco cartel leader remains to be the most elusive criminal and is reportedly hiding in Mexico.

On the other hand, Jose Antonio Yépez Ortiz, the leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, has already been captured by Mexican authorities in 2020. However, the cartel members and new leaders continued to engage in turf wars to win or maintain their territory even though their boss was arrested.
