Brett Favre Net Worth 2022: Can the NFL Legend Afford to Build the Controversial $5 Million Volleyball Court With His Own Money?
The legendary Super Bowl-winning Green Bay Packers quarterback, Brett Favre, has built a career about winning in the NFL. However, a recent political scandal involving him and a former Mississippi governor using social welfare funds meant for the poorest of the poor in his home state has certainly tarnished his once-great image.
Favre is a three-time NFL MVP and won the Super Bowl for Green Bay. He has earned millions in his career from his salary, endorsements, and paid appearances.
However, with the Mississippi welfare scandal now dragging his name through the mud, the question is, can he afford to build that controversial volleyball court meant for poor Mississippians using his own money this time?
Brett Favre: A Mississippi Football Legend or Corrupt Elite?
Mississippi native Brett Lorenzo Favre came from the small town of Gulfport and became a standout on his high school football team. He was so good that he received a football scholarship to Southern Mississippi University, which was caught up in his corruption scandal in the state.
Initially assigned as a defensive back, he soon became a quarterback and gained recognition in that position. Favre held several Southern Mississippi University football records until 2011. It was not long until the NFL came knocking after that.
The Atlanta Falcons drafted him in 1991 with a $1.4 million contract. However, he achieved football greatness when he played for the Green Bay Packers, playing 16 seasons over at Wisconsin and winning three consecutive MVP awards.
Favre also won Super Bowl XXXI. He led the team to the Super Bowl game for two consecutive years, though he failed to win Super Bowl XXXII. He retired in 2008 but unretired shortly after.
After his 2008 retirement, he played for several other teams, including the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings. He finally retired for good in 2011, and according to Sportskeeda, he was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
He had several ventures after permanent retirement, including a steakhouse and several other businesses. He also had several endorsements and paid appearances as well.
However, with his daughter attending his alma mater, Southern Mississippi University, he built a volleyball court for her and her teammates to play in. That volleyball court came with a price tag worth $5 million in construction cost, and Favre received all the credit for its construction.
Unfortunately, the money used for that volleyball court was supposed to be used for federal welfare projects to help the poorest people in Mississippi, which is regarded as the poorest state in the United States.
According to Vox, Favre also received $1 million in cash for a speaking engagement he did not give. It was also reported that Brett Favre also directed around $2 million worth of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) money to a pharmaceutical company he invested in, known as Prevacus.

With investments, speaking engagements, and various other ventures, as well as the money he earned throughout his career, Celebrity Net Worth reported that Brett Favre is worth around $100 million. It still does not count the money he took from the TANF.
That means Favre can more than afford to build the volleyball stadium with his own money. The investigation, which is still ongoing, also involved other famous personalities, including then-governor Phil Bryant, several Mississippi officials, and former WWE wrestler Ted DiBiase Sr.
