The Jalisco cartel has allegedly killed a public official in Mexico's Michoacan state, together with his father, this week.

The murdered public official was identified as Omar Daniel Colin, who worked as secretary of the Ocampo municipal hall in Michoacan. His father, Juan Colín Vanegas, was also killed by the Jalisco cartel gunmen.

According to Infobae, their bodies were found inside their gray van in the municipality of Zitacuaro in Michoacan Wednesday morning. Agents of the National Guard went to the scene after receiving a report of multiple gunshots at around 7:30 a.m.

But when they arrived, they only saw the abandoned vehicle and the lifeless bodies. The vehicle reportedly had bullet holes and a narco message signed by "El Barbas," whose real name is William Edwin Rivera Padilla. El Barbas has been identified as a local leader of the Jalisco cartel in Michoacan.

The narco message, written on white cardboard, said the executions were the consequence of not paying the cartel's fees and warned that the same thing will happen to people who will do the same.

According to intelligence reports, Daniel Colin had already received a threat from the Jalisco cartel after he did not agree to pay the criminal group's fees.

Jalisco Cartel Threatens Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel in Mexico's Guanajuato State

Reports said another narco message from the Jalisco cartel appeared next to the body of a lifeless man wearing a motorcycle helmet, blue jeans, and a black jacket in Apaseo in Mexico's Guanajuato state on Wednesday.

The narco message, written on green cardboard, was reportedly signed by the "Elite Group," an armed wing of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel or Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) that emerged in 2019 under the command of Juan Carlos Gonzalez, alias "El 03."

In the narco message, the Jalisco cartel threatened the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel and demanded that they stop killing innocents. The CJNG also said that the area already belonged to Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes, which is currently leading the Jalisco cartel.

The victim's identity is not yet known, but a preliminary investigation indicated that he was a member of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel.

The Jalisco Cartel of Mexico

The Jalisco cartel is reportedly operating not just in Mexico but internationally as well. U.S. officials noted that the CJNG controls the movement of more than a third of all drugs consumed in the U.S. and has expanded into Europe and Asia, The Washington Post reported.

According to authorities, the Jalisco cartel is known for making mass graves, kidnappings, acid baths, and video recording beheadings. The CJNG had risen to power after former Sinaloa Cartel capo Ignacio Coronel, known as "Nacho," was killed in July 2010 by Mexican security forces.

Nacho's death resulted in the split of the Sinaloa Cartel into two factions - "La Resistencia" and "Torcidos." The "Torcidos" became what is now the Jalisco cartel, which has since expanded rapidly in Mexico.

El Mencho, who currently heads the Jalisco cartel, continues to evade capture. The U.S. government has already offered a $10 million reward for information leading to his arrest. El Mencho remains to be the most elusive criminal, and he is reportedly hiding in Mexico.
