Federal prosecutors leading the investigation on Hunter Biden's case believe that they have enough evidence to charge U.S. President Joe Biden's son with tax crimes, including a false statement in relation to gun purchase, according to people familiar with the matter.

Business Insider reported that the U.S. attorney in Delaware will now decide whether to push the case against Hunter with a criminal case.

Hunter addressed the matter in a statement in 2020, saying that he takes the matter of investigation on his tax affairs "very seriously."

The president's son said he is confident that a "professional and objective review" of the issues against him will show that he handled it in a legal and appropriate manner.

A lawyer representing Hunter, Chris Clark, did not comment on the reports of enough evidence to file a charge against his client.

Clark then accused federal investigators of leaking details, adding that it is a "federal felony for a federal agent" to release information about a Grand Jury investigation.

He claimed that any agent cited in the report has "committed such a felony," noting that they expect the Justice Department to investigate and prosecute such "bad actors."

Hunter Biden Case Now Have Enough Evidence

The Washington Post report noted that agents determined months ago that they had constructed a viable case against Hunter. However, it is ultimately up to prosecutors at the Justice Department, not agents, to decide whether to file charges.

Attorney General Merrick Garland promised that there will be no political or improper interference in Hunter's case.

U.S. Attorney in Delaware, David C. Weiss, is supervising the case. He was nominated by former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2017.

A Weiss spokeswoman declined to comment, as well as representatives from the Justice Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the Internal Revenue Service.

During the height of the election campaign, Trump and his allies revealed that a Delaware computer ship owner had turned over to the FBI a laptop that was believed to belong to Hunter.

The owner of the Delaware computer repair shop was identified as John Paul Mac Isaac. He claimed that Hunter left a damaged Apple computer at his shop in April 2019 and asked to recover any data, according to The New York Times report.

Isaac said Hunter came to his shop twice but never returned to retrieve the computer or the external hard drive containing the data.

Isaac then determined to examine the material and called it "alarming" and "embarrassing." He added that he made a copy of the computer's contents.

Isaac said he eventually decided to contact the FBI after he knew what was on the laptop. After giving the contents to the FBI, he did not hear from the investigators.

There was no concrete evidence from the laptop that contained Russian disinformation.
