A former Donald Trump employee has told Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about moving boxes of Mar-a-Lago documents on the order of the former president, according to people familiar with the probe.

The Washington Post reported that the witness account with the security camera footage can present key evidence of Trump's behavior as investigators sought the return of classified documents.

Sources noted that FBI agents have collected witness accounts stating that Trump told people to move boxes to his residence at Mar-a-Lago after his advisers received a subpoena in May for any classified documents they still possess.

The people that have knowledge of the investigation spoke on the condition of anonymity. Their description has been corroborated by the security-camera footage.

Sources said that the Trump employee was working at Mar-a-Lago and is currently cooperating with the Justice Department.

The same Trump employee has also been interviewed multiple times by federal agents.

Donald Trump Employee on Mar-a-Lago Documents

The Trump employee initially denied handling the Mar-a-Lago documents, which were classified as sensitive. However, following conversations revealed that they moved boxes of Mar-a-Lago documents at Trump's request.

A Trump spokesperson has released a statement saying that U.S. President Joe Biden's administration had "weaponized law enforcement," as reported by The Guardian.

Multiple witnesses have told the FBI that they tried to convince Trump to cooperate with the National Archives and Records Administration, as well as the Justice Department.

One witness said that Trump was angry after a House Oversight Committee investigation was started, telling aides that they had "screwed up."

One aide who spoke to Trump claimed that the former president said that "they're my documents."

Aside from the investigation on Trump's handling of classified documents, the former president also faces a civil lawsuit filed against him and his three adult children by New York's Attorney General Letitia James.

Donald Trump's Legal Cases

The FBI seized the Mar-a-Lago documents in the former president's Florida residence, with about 100 documents that were marked classified.

Investigators found the materials stored in various locations of the Mar-a-Lago property. Business Insider noted that some of these documents were found inside a closet in Trump's office and in a storage area of a basement.

Meanwhile, the civil lawsuit filed by James is focused on Trump's financial statements, which reflected "a pattern of fraud." James said in her filing that the Trump Organization's business practices were "fraudulent or misleading."

Trump is also under investigation for the January 6 riot that took place at Capitol Hill. A House committee is reviewing the role the former president and his allies may have played, according to The New York Times report. More than a dozen of former federal prosecutors are involved in the January 6 inquiry.

Trump is also involved in a Georgia Criminal Inquiry, wherein Fulton County district Attorney Fani T. Willis is looking if the former president interfered with the 2020 presidential election.
