SNAP Benefits Update: You Can Now Use Your EBT Card to Buy on Target Online
Several states have added online purchasing as a shopping option in their state, with customers able to pay for their groceries or staple foods using SNAP benefits through their EBT card or Electronic Benefits Transfer card.
Recently, major retailer has announced that their website is officially accepting SNAP benefits payments for digital orders of food items eligible under the program, according to a Go Banking Rates report.
Target instructed on its website how to create orders and pay for them using recipients' EBT cards.
The major retailers' website noted that customers must add an EBT account number as a new card under "Payments," then build a cart and check out with eligible food items. Lastly, they can select their EBT as their payment method and enter their PIN to confirm the order.
Digital payment for groceries in Target will allow guests to shop across Target's assortment through their fast and contactless same-day services, without any minimum fee or subscription required.

SNAP Benefits Target
Target partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2021 and started the test-and-learn approach on how they can make it easier for customers to shop online using SNAP benefits.
The retailer piloted the online shop option in Minnesota in the summer of 2022 and started rolling it out in more states as of September 2022.
The SNAP benefits payment option in Target has become available across the United States, except for Alaska, in October 2022.
Target's chief food and beverage officer, Rick Gomez, said in a CBS News report that it will make the entire experience accessible to all families and allow them to shop on their terms regardless of their payment method.
Target officials announced earlier that revenue from food and beverage sales was growing quickly as more shoppers were allowed to order groceries online.
The retail giant also noted that it will introduce mobile payment options for digital orders in the Target App.
Customers can also apply Target Circle discounts to their food items when available or shop the grocery deals in the retailer's weekly ads, as reported by Tech Crunch.
Target is not the only grocery provider offering customers the option to pay for their orders using their SNAP benefits. For instance, Instacart has been advancing SNAP benefits use among shoppers. Instacart initially partnered with ALDI to offer the option in 2020.
SNAP Benefits 2022
In October, SNAP benefits increased its maximum allotment, which is related to the cost of USDA's Thrifty Food Plan.
Household size of four will have a maximum SNAP allotment of $835 in the 48 states and the District of Columbia.
In Alaska, the maximum allotment range from $1,074 to $1,667, while the maximum allotment in Hawaii is $1,573.
Yahoo Finance noted that the maximum allotment for Guam is at $1,231, while it is at $1,074 for the residents of U.S. Virgin Islands.
Meanwhile, there will also be an increase in SNAP minimum benefit of up to $20 for 48 states and D.C.
