The Tallahassee Police Department announced in a statement via social media that the skeletal remains found last Monday may belong to the missing Florida man, a father of four, Jason Winoker. He was 52 years old when he was last seen last year.

The skeletal remains were found by a group of people around 3 pm on Monday around a heavily wooded area" on the 2600 block of Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee. According to police, their preliminary findings revealed that the body might be of Winoker.

According to the Tallahassee Police Department, "This case remains open and active and there are no further updates available at this time."

The Disappearance of Jason Winoker

According to NBC News, Winoker was last seen by family members during the early morning hours of August 17, 2021. His disappearance was then filed with the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

Before he disappeared, he was staying at the Sprinfield Suites Hotel in Tallahassee, Florida, which is less than half a mile from where the human remains were found.

The Florida man was actually from Tampa and he and his wife traveled to Tallahassee to drop off one of their children at Florida State University. His disappearance remained a mystery until the skeletal remains were found.

In an interview with local CBS Affiliate channel WCTV, Winoker's wife, Renee, stated that he woke up disoriented at around 1:00 a.m. on the day he disappeared. He then grabbed his wallet and keys and left their hotel room without his phone.

"I've been married to my husband for 21 years and it's not like him to just disappear," Renee told the news outlet. She later tried looking for him in the lobby and then realized he was not there and has not yet returned. She soon reported to the police that her husband was missing.

When he went missing, Tallahassee police stated that they did not expect any foul play. However, his wife and children still expressed that they are worried for the father of four. When the body was discovered, the Tallahassee Medical Examiner said the investigation remains open

Jason Winoker's Friend Speaks After Human Remains Were Found in Tallahassee, Florida

Following the discovery of his alleged remains by a group of individuals in a heavily-wooded area, a friend of Winoker spoke with ABC 27 to talk about the man who was missing for over a year.

That friend, Susan Cohen, stated that Winoker was a wonderful person and a big family man. That friend added that Winoker loved his family and loved his kids and that he was just a very good person. 

Family and friends of the missing Florida man now say that they finally have some sense of closure following the discovery of his alleged remains.

He is survived by his wife Renee and four children.
