Kanye West Shuts Down Donda Academy Amid Backlash to Antisemitic Comments
The Donda Academy is shutting down for the school year as backlash and criticism over Kanye West's recent antisemitic remarks continue.
ESPN got a copy of an email from academy principal Jason Angell who said that the Grammy-winning rapper had decided to shut down the school.
"Our leadership team will be working diligently to assist all families during this transition, ensuring that every scholar has what they need to succeed in their next community in a prompt and gracious manner," Angell wrote.
"We intend to begin afresh in September of 2023," he added.

Kanye West's Donda Academy Shutting Down Due to Staff Protest
According to TMZ, Kanye West's Donda Academy may be shut down for good as the educators have been quitting in protest.
Sources linked to Donda Academy told the outlet that a recent wave of staff members resigning had prevented the school from running as usual. The insiders noted that the personnel were quitting due to the academy founder's antisemitic rants.
The rapper's offensive comments, his thoughts on George Floyd's death, and his "White Lives Matter" clothing have reportedly caused more teachers and staff to leave the Donda Academy.
On Wednesday night, Kanye returned to Instagram and posted, "My school is being shut down," which he later removed.
Angell also sent an email to parents of students late on Wednesday night and told them that Donda Academy will close for the rest of the 2022-2023 school year "at the discretion of our founder, effective immediately."
Later that night, a parent sent another email to other parents and children. It said, "Join us tomorrow morning in worship for the return of Donda Academy. With the help of our parents and community, we are back and returning with a vengeance!"
Some parents have already started looking for new schools for their children, while others prefer to keep them at Donda.
Donda Academy's future is still uncertain, despite the parents' efforts to get children to show up at the school located in Southern California on Friday morning.
Celtics' Jaylen Brown Reacts to Kanye West's Donda Academy Shutting Down
Jaylen Brown said earlier this week that he was leaving Kanye West's Donda Sports because of the rapper's antisemitic comments, Mass Live reported. However, he also said that he wanted to keep his relationship with the students and staff at the Donda Academy.
Kanye West established the school this year. Reacting to rumors that Donda Academy would close for the rest of the school year, Brown tweeted that "a lot of great teachers, parents, and students are affected by this."
"It is easy to speak from the outside looking in. I spent time at Donda academy and it is (a lot) better than some public schools in America with a better curriculum high school students were fully accredited," Brown went on to say.
"Education resources and opportunity is key... Donda Academy supplied that for these student athletes in hopes to get exposure and potentially change there families lives generationally that opportunity was taken away from them today to prove a point? Why make them apart of this," he added.

Since Donda Academy has closed effective immediately, reports said the school's basketball team, which was scheduled to compete in Culligan City of Palms Classic in December, will no longer play in the event.
