Chicago Halloween Night Shooting: 14 Hurt, Including 3 Children, After 2 Men in SUV Sprayed Bullets at Them
A Halloween night shooting on the West Side of Chicago injured 14 individuals, including three children.
The shooting occurred near California Avenue and Polk Street in East Garfield Park past 9 p.m. Monday, when a group of people gathered for a vigil and released balloons to honor a woman who died of natural causes, according to Chicago police.
"It's heartbreaking. People go out to memorialize someone and ultimately become victims," said 28th Ward Alderman Jason Ervin.
ABC 7 Chicago reported that the youngest casualty was a 3-year-old child. An 11-year-old and a 13-year-old were also injured.
According to the police, the other victims were in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. All of the victim's conditions reportedly ranged from severe to non-critical.
There were no reports of casualties yet, but at least six people were listed in serious or critical condition in nearby hospitals. A victim identified as Pierre Riley was reportedly shot in the head and is currently fighting for his life in the hospital.

Halloween Night Shooting Incident in Chicago
Police said the Halloween night shooting incident was partly caught on security camera. Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said it was a drive-by shooting, and they know "it happens in just a few seconds."
"It begins and then it's over, about three seconds, the car is pulling out after driving by and shooting randomly, really, into the crowd," Brown noted.
Based on the preliminary investigation, two unidentified persons traveling via a dark-colored SUV suddenly started shooting people standing on the corner of the intersection attending the vigil, NBC News reported.
Brown said the motive was still unknown, and no offender had been identified yet. Police are also unaware of any conflicts in that area.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot condemned this violence and called it "another tragic display of gun violence by cowards indiscriminately shooting into a crowd." She asked people to speak up if they knew anything about the suspects.
"The Chicago Police Department has been hard at work through the night to bring the perpetrators to justice," the mayor noted.

Detectives from the Chicago Police Department investigating the video reportedly talked to witnesses and victims and have taken steps to find the shooters.
"We are also coordinating with community organizations to support the victims and their families in their time of crisis," Lightfoot added.
Violence a Daily Ordeal in Chicago Area Where the Halloween Night Shooting Happened
According to Chicago Sun-Times, violence is so common at the block of three flats where 14 people were shot. The outlet noted that drivers had been seen reversing their cars after being waved away at gunpoint while on the one-way street.
According to a person familiar with the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street in East Garfield Park, a group of young kids on the east end of the block stand in the street and show off their guns and will not let people pass.
The person said: "It's a terrible block. Just horrible... Gunfire is a daily occurrence. When the police come, they get yelled at and spit on."
