Barbados is one of the Caribbean's most popular islands. According to Lonely Planet, the world's newest republic is full of natural wonders, architectural and historical sites, exotic animals, and beautiful beaches.

That is why Rihanna, its favorite daughter, does not spend too much time away from home and why you will keep coming back. Below are the top Barbados tourist spots.

Barbados Famous Tourist Spot: Mount Gay Distilleries

Mount Gay Distilleries produces the best rum due to the island's long history of sugar cane cultivation and the ideal tropical weather for aging alcohol. The most famous distillery in Barbados is also the oldest commercial rum distillery in the world. It opened in 1703.

Their trademark sampling tells the tale of how rum was born in Barbados and gives you a taste of the famed brand's high-quality rums. Cocktail crafting classes, a Bajan lunch pairing with local dishes, and an infinite supply of rum punch are also available. Experiences start at $20, and getting to and from hotels is free. The Mount Gay Visitors Center is conveniently located in the country's largest city and capital, Bridgetown.

Mount Hillaby

The peak of Mount Hillaby is the highest point on the island. The peak is located in the parish of Saint Andrew at 1,115 feet or 343 meters above sea level. This site is one of the best scenic lookouts in Barbados. It overlooks the area known as the Scotland District to the north and east.

If you follow a narrow road through the village of Hillaby, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views, according to Barbados.org. If you visit Mount Hillaby in the morning, you will most likely witness a lovely mist covering the region. When the fog lifts later in the day, you can get clear views of the verdant countryside and the coast.

Carlisle Bay

Carlisle Bay, which resembles a crescent, is located on the southern outskirts of Bridgetown. This is one of Barbados' most stunning beaches, with a stretch of smooth white sand and a tranquil blue sea. The nearby shipwrecks, some of which happened by accident and others on purpose to help coral reefs grow, make this area a snorkeler's dream.

Diving in its clear water will treat you to the best views of different kinds of fish, lobsters, and turtles. However, the Bay does not have much shade, so you should bring an umbrella and sunscreen, and there are also places to eat, drink, and use the restroom.

The Harrison Cave

Harrison's Cave is one of the Caribbean's most stunning natural wonders. The caverns were formed when water eroded the limestone rock, revealing unusual stalactites and stalagmites. A tram ride is required to take a tour, so the stunning tunnels and crystallized formations are practically never disturbed.

Rihanna Drive

This one-way street in Bridgetown's outskirts boasts two rows of colorful residences directly across Spring Garden Highway from the sea. However, visitors frequently go to the green-and-yellow one three quarters of the way down the road, the Caribbean Journal reported.

Before the Grammys, Platinum records, and the fashion empire and before Westbury New Road was named Rihanna Drive, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, best known as Rihanna, used to ride her bike up and down Westbury New Road. One of this century's most important music careers started on this street in the parish of St. Michael, which eventually became one of the most important Barbados tourist spots.

The government of Barbados officially changed the name of Westbury New Road to Rihanna Drive in 2017 to honor the woman who has become one of the world's most popular music and fashion icons.
