On Monday, Hurricane Nicole formed as a subtropical storm in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean, becoming the 14th named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, which concludes later this month.

Florida has declared a state of emergency in 45 counties, per ABC News.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Hurricane Nicole intensified into a hurricane as it approaches Grand Bahama Island. The storm is expected to have maximum wind speeds of 75 miles per hour.

The storm is currently 105 miles east of West Palm Beach, Florida, and 25 miles east-northeast of Freeport, Bahamas.

Hurricane Nicole is still moving west at 12 mph and is expected to hit the east coast of Florida after midnight.

Nicole Update: The Hurricane Hits the East Coast of Florida Wednesday Night

On Wednesday night, Hurricane Nicole is expected to make landfall along Florida's east coast.

CNN says that it would be the first hurricane to hit the United States in November since Hurricane Kate hit the panhandle of Florida in 1985.

"Outer bands from Nicole have already started impacting east central FL," the National Weather Service office in Melbourne, Florida said in a 3:30 p.m. tweet.

"Conditions, especially along the coast, are dangerous. Waters will begin rising yet again this afternoon as high tide arrives around 8:20 to 8:30 PM. STAY AWAY FROM THE BEACHES."

On Wednesday morning, the Hurricane Center said that areas of the eastern Florida shore were already experiencing tropical storm-force winds (39 to 73 mph) and floods.

Some areas of Boynton Beach, north of Boca Raton, were submerged to the ankles.

Hurricane Nicole is expected to weaken as it moves across the southeastern U.S. on Thursday and Friday after it hits Florida.

Still, it could cause flooding and damage in Florida, which is still recovering from Hurricane Ian, which hit the west coast of the state in September and then caused damage all over the state, killing at least 120 people and destroying whole neighborhoods.

Hurricane Nicole Florida Tracker

Hurricane Nicole is going to the coasts of Florida and Georgia.

NBC News provided a Nicole tracker, which will be updated frequently to reflect the most recent predictions.

Meanwhile, flights were canceled at several airports before the storm hit.

Palm Beach International Airport suspended all flights Wednesday morning, and Orlando International Airport announced a halt to all commercial operations at 4 p.m. The Daytona Beach airport closed at 1:35 p.m. and will reopen on Friday morning.

Moreover, airports in Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville remain open, although passengers are advised to check with their airlines regarding potential delays or cancellations.

Over 500 personnel of the Florida National Guard have been activated to assist in the response, NBC News noted.

"These forces are actively pre-staging throughout the state but will remain flexible to re-position where needed to ensure a quick response," the agency said.

"Our forces are prepared to conduct a variety of missions to include bridge entry control points, traffic control points, search and rescue, security, and installation of Tiger Dam systems."
