Sarah Jessica Parker on TV: Star Reportedly Making Return to Screen as Reporter on 'Busted'
Sarah Jessica Parker is going from "Sex And The City" to a crime thriller. Parker is attached to "Busted," a new TV series from Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and producer Anonymous Content, reports Variety.
The show is based on the book "Busted: A Tale of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love." The hour-long drama will have Parker play one of the two leads. The book was written by reporters Wendy Ruderman and Barbara Laker.
David Finkel, who has worked on "The Devil Wears Prada," "Band of Brothers" and "Entourage," will direct and executive produce the pilot. Don Roos, who worked on "Web Therapy" and "Marley & Me," will write the pilot.
The book follows the reporters' efforts to reveal a corruption scandal in Philadelphia. The two wrote the series in 2009 for the Philadelphia Daily News. It was named "Tainted Justice." The reporters won a Pulitzer Prize for the 10-month series.
"Wendy and Barbara have written an amazing story, and we're thrilled for it to be SKE's first television project," said Tim Taruber, SKE president, and Carla Hacken, president of production. "Sarah Jessica's coming on board, along with David Finkel and Don Roos is simply a perfect combination that we couldn't be happier about."
Hacken, who will be the executive producer, secured the book rights as an independent producer. Then, she brought the project to SKE when she joined the company in March.
The book is not like a traditional news story, said Philadelphia Magazine. The reporters put themselves in the story in order to better explain what happened.
A review by Rosella Eleanor Lefevre said: "It's a personal journey through the newsroom, and Philly's drug war-torn streets. And because it is so personal, the reader really gets to see the journalists, warts and all. There are tales of Ruderman's seemingly supportive husband (they've since divorced) and her spirited kids, and tales of Laker's dating adventures and the toll of her mother's death."
