Brian Laundrie's family wanted "Celebrity Jeopardy!" to apologize for using his suicide and the murder of Gabby Petito as a clue.

Steven Bertolino, the family attorney, told TMZ that "the entire Laundrie family is appalled and concurs with all of the comments on social media on how distasteful this was. I believe an apology is due."

The outlet reported that many netizens got angry about the "Celebrity Jeopardy!" clue on Sunday's episode that mentioned Laundrie and Petito's deaths.

The clue reads: "In 2021 Fugitive Brian Laundrie Ended His Days In Fla.'s Myakkahatchee Creek Area, Home to These Long & Toothy Critters." The answer was, "What are alligators?"

Many people on social media felt that it trivializes Petito's murder and Laundrie's subsequent evade from a massive manhunt.

'Celebrity Jeopardy!' Receives Angry Reactions From Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito 'Clue'

Many viewers were furious with "Celebrity Jeopardy!" after the program featured Brian Laundrie, who murdered his fiancee, Gabby Petito. During Sunday's semifinal round, actors John Michael Higgins and Wil Wheaton battled against comedian Joel Kim Booster.

TMZ reported that Booster correctly answered the Laundrie clue from "The A List" category, which all answers included the letter "A" after "Jeopardy!" host Mayim Bialik read it.

Bialik reportedly then proceeded to the next topic as if nothing was wrong. However, many fans of the show quickly took to Twitter to voice their anger.

A netizen tweeted: "What in the hell is wrong with you? Have you no soul? I can't believe this question got past your lawyers." Another Twitter user wrote that "this is beyond offensive. It's appalling & completely insensitive, not to mention totally unnecessary. Shame on, @Jeopardy."

A third netizen said: "This is the most tasteless and insensitive answer I've ever seen on any Jeopardy! What the hell were they thinking? Making light of that tragic situation is repugnant. Damn."

Another angry observer tweeted: "That Jeopardy! question mentioning Brian Laundrie... was so... out of line. Not necessary! There was no reason to mention him at all!"

Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito's Deaths

Gabby Petito disappeared while on a cross-country road trip with Brian Laundrie. The couple was traveling to Oregon when Petito stopped communicating with her family on August 25, 2021, when she was near Grand Teton National Park in Jackson, Wyoming.

Laundrie was named a person of interest by the North Port police after returning home to Florida on September 1 or 10 days before Petito was reported missing by her family.

By September 17, 2021, Laundrie had also gone missing, and the North Porth Police said that they, along with the FBI, were searching for him and Petito.

Petito's body was found at the Spread Creek Dispersed Campground near Grand Teton National Park on September 19, 2021. A Teton County, Wyoming coroner said she was strangled to death by a "human being," and the manner of death was a homicide.

On October 20, 2021, Laundrie's skeletal remains were discovered at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in Florida. His autopsy report showed that he died of a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death was suicide.

Last January, the FBI revealed that Laundrie confessed to killing Petito in a message left in his notebook. The FBI said they found the notebook, along with a "backpack" and a "revolver," upon further search of the area where Laundrie's remains were discovered.

The FBI noted that its investigation has concluded that Brian Laundrie was the only person responsible for Gabby Petito's "tragic death."
