Mike Pence on Donald Trump Presidential Bid: There Will Be 'Better Choices' in 2024 Elections

Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence noted that voters for the 2024 election will "have better choices" to choose from than the former-President Donald Trump, who announced his presidential bid for the 2024 election a day ago.

In an interview aired on ABC's "World News Tonight," Pence said that he thinks there will be better choices in the future. Pence added that he thinks people want to see their national leaders star to reflect the same "compassion and generosity of spirit."

The former vice president said that Trump was the only presidential candidate in 2016 who could have defeated Hilary Clinton. However, he also acknowledges that with different times, comes the need for "different leadership.

Mike Pompeo, Trump's former state secretary, noted the same remarks as Pence's. He tweeted that the country needs "more seriousness, less noise," with leaders looking ahead and "not staring in the rearview mirror claiming victimhood."

In a conservative radio talk show hosted by Hugh Hewitt, Pompeo noted that Trump's announcement that he would run for president again would have no effect whether Pompeo decides to do the same.

Mike Pence on Donald Trump's Presidential Bid

Pence was asked in another interview with "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan if he thinks "there is danger" in Trump going back to his White House position. Pence touted the Trump administration's accomplishments during its leadership. However, he also noted that Trump's presidency did not end well.

Pence faced immense pressure from Trump, urging him to unilaterally overturn the 2020 presidential election results on January 6, 2021.

However, he noted that Congress "has no right" over his testimony. He earlier said that he would consider testifying before the committee.

The committee has consistently praised Pence's refusal to bow to the former president, but also noted that the former vice president's recent statements about the House select committee "are not accurate."

Pence was asked if there is "an opportunity for Republicans to reflect" on the events that took place on January 6. He answered that he would leave the question "to others."

Donald Trump Presidential Bid

Trump announced that he will try another presidential run in the 2024 election amid his multiple criminal investigations and the lackluster performance of the candidates he supported in the midterm elections. Trump spoke to hundreds of supporters saying that he announced his candidacy to "make America great again."

However, he might not face an easier candidacy for the 2024 election.

BBC News noted that Trump will be running with a record, with the looming not-so-far events of January 6.

Trump would have to defend the way he handled the end of his presidency and the role he played in the Capitol attack, with a mob of supporters waving Trump banners.

In addition, Trump is currently defending himself against a criminal election-tampering inquiry in Georgia, a civil fraud case against his business empire, and his handling of classified documents among others.
