The Oregon Department of Human Services noted that SNAP benefits emergency allotments in December in Oregon will continue.

Oregon will issue the emergency allotments in January 2023 after the federal government approved the benefits for December. However, emergency allotments with the SNAP benefits recipients are expected to be halted once the federal public health emergency ends.

Jana McLellan, interim director of the Oregon Department of Human Services, Self-Sufficiency Programs, noted that many rely on the emergency food benefits to put enough healthy food for themselves and their families.

McLellan added that the holiday season can also bring additional stress and worry for some Oregonians who are still struggling to meet their basic needs.

The ODHS interim director then encouraged struggling Oregonians to contact the Oregon Food Bank and local offices involved for support.

SNAP Benefits December

There are currently five states that will officially extend the emergency program into December: New York, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, there are more states, such as California, Hawaii, Kansas, Alabama, Massachusetts, Vermont, Minnesota, and Nevada, whose November payments will be distributed into December.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture provides information on monthly payment schedules for all states and territories.

In Colorado, benefits are made available from the 1st to the 10th of every month, which depends on the last digit of the recipient's SNAP number.

Payment dates are staggered throughout the month based on SNAP case numbers, last names, or Social Security numbers in most states.

The payment schedule is also usually the same every month, but in Alaska, all recipients get payments on the first day of every month.

In Florida, benefits might be paid on 20 different days, with states also having the power to alter rules on payment dates that fall on weekends or holidays.

SNAP-eligible items do not change. Recipients in various states can use their SNAP benefits to procure food items such as food and vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, bread and cereals, and snack foods.

SNAP benefits can also buy seeds and plants as they can produce food for the household to eat.

SNAP Benefits Oregon

To be eligible for SNAP benefits in Oregon, you must be a resident of the state and meet the requirements of having a current bank balance under $2,001 or having a current bank balance under $3,001, if you share the household with a person age 60 and over or a person with a disability.

Interested SNAP benefits applicants should prepare Social Security numbers for each person in the household. A list of all income from work and other sources for the last 30 days is also required in the application.

Local SNAP office officials will also ask applicants for their monthly rent or mortgage, including the utilities they usually pay.
