Aaron Judge Spurns $400 Million Offer From Padres, Takes $360 Million Deal With Yankees Instead
The San Diego Padres reportedly made a 10-year, $400 million offer to Aaron Judge before he signed again with the New York Yankees.
According to journalist Bob Nightengale, Judge agreed to the nine-year, $360 million deal with New York after much deliberation. This is the second time San Diego has made a generous offer but has yet to sign a player this offseason.
The first player to turn down their offer was Trea Turner, who reportedly signed with the Phillies for a lower offer. According to ClutchPoints, Judge's name was discussed with the Yankees, the Giants, and the Dodgers throughout the offseason. However, the Padres made a late run in free agency.
Judge is a free agent. He even went to San Diego to meet with the Padres before signing again with the Yankees. Jon Heyman's report on Tuesday hinted that Judge will likely join the San Francisco Giants.
But in the end, Heyman walked back his story, which led to a lot of mockery on Twitter. Many believed that Aaron Judge would end up in San Francisco. But the Yankees persisted and ultimately wooed him with an offer he could not reject.

Aaron Judge Sticks With the New York Yankees
The New York Yankees will retain their greatest power hitter in the upcoming season as Aaron Judge agreed to remain in New York City in exchange for a massive contract commensurating his talents.
Athletic writer Ken Rosenthal and MLB Network insider Jon Morosi also reported that Judge has agreed to a nine-year deal to pay him $360 million.

The deal is reportedly still pending a physical, but it is unlikely that it will be stalled for the Yankees to keep their star player. Judge had one of the greatest individual seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) history last year, which upped his contract value, according to ClutchPoint.
Even though there have been bigger deals in the league in the past few years, the fact that this one start before he turns 31 next year is a massive win for the Bronx's big man.
How New York Yankees Get Aaron Judge's Contract Re-Signed?
Aaron Boone, the New York Yankees manager, thought Aaron Judge would leave the team. So, he returned to his hotel room Tuesday night and called Judge one last time.
Judge was in San Diego, just a few blocks from the baseball winter meetings headquarters, but he was not there to meet with the Yankees.
"I had a pit in my stomach all day," Boone told USA TODAY Sports.
Boone called around 11 p.m. and told Judge how he felt about him and reminded him of how important he was to the Yankees, but when they were done talking, Boone had no idea about Judge's thoughts.
"I really didn't know," Boone told the outlet before a breakfast meeting with managers on Wednesday morning. "He didn't tell me. All I knew is that the Padres were now involved, along with the Giants."
Boone woke up at around 5 a.m. Wednesday and looked at his cell phone. There were a few text messages, including one from Brian Cashman, the general manager of the Yankees, saying that Judge was staying with the Yankees.
Aaron Judge signed the most lucrative free-agent deal in baseball history. He is considered the Yankees' greatest power hitter since Babe Ruth.
