Stephen Boss, best known as "DJ tWitch" on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," was found dead in a Los Angeles motel Tuesday morning.

His wife, Allison Holker, was reportedly frantic when she ran into an LAPD police station on Tuesday morning to report that her husband was missing, according to TMZ.

Holker reported that Boss left home without his car, which was not like him at all. A short time later, paramedics were called for a medical emergency at the motel and found DJ tWitch dead. Boss reportedly died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 40-year-old DJ was pronounced dead at the scene.

Holker told TMZ following the tragic news that her husband lit up every room he stepped into and valued his friends and family. She noted that DJ tWitch was the backbone of their family and had been the best husband and father. 

Holker said her husband was an inspiration to his fans and that his positive impact would continue. 

"To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt. I am certain there won't be a day that goes by that we won't honor his memory," she told the outlet.

Holker then concluded that she loves her late husband, and they miss him and promise to save her last dance for him.

DJ tWitch of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' Found Dead in Los Angeles Motel

Sources with knowledge about what happened told TMZ that before police found him dead, Stephen Boss checked into a motel near his home in Los Angeles.

Motel staff, who also spoke with TMZ, noted that DJ tWitch did not seem to be distressed when he checked in and did not appear visibly upset about anything. They said he had a small bag with him when he booked the room for one night.

DJ tWitch missed his checkout on Tuesday, so employees went inside the room to check if he was still there. However, they found him dead inside the bathroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The staffers said no one heard gunfire throughout DJ tWitch's stay.

According to the Los Angeles County Coroner, Boss was pronounced dead at about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday in the Los Angeles suburb of Encino. His cause of death has been ruled suicide by a gunshot wound to the head.

Friends and Fans Pay Tribute to Late DJ of 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'

Tributes poured out across social media after the sudden death of Boss. Following the news of her friend's death, Ellen DeGeneres paid tribute to the late DJ.

She wrote on social media alongside a picture of her and Stephen Boss embraced in a tight hug: "I'm heartbroken. tWitch was pure love and light. He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart. I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children - Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia."

Boss started on DeGeneres' show in 2014 and was with her until the show ended last May. In 2020, he was named an executive producer of the show.

Jennifer Lopez, who worked with the late DJ on "World of Dance," shared several pictures with him on Instagram and said: "Twitch was such a light and a beautiful soul... Shocked and deeply saddened. My heart breaks for @sir_twitch_alot, his wife and children. Sending you love and strength."

Many fans also said that Boss was more than just "Ellen's DJ," as he was also a dance legend, first appearing on "So You Think You Can Dance."
