Fresh from losing her election lawsuit against Maricopa County and Arizona Governor-elect Katie Hobbs, defeated Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and her lawyers are now facing possible legal sanctions.

This comes after Maricopa County lawyers filed a motion for sanctions against Lake and her legal team, with Hobbs officially joining the motion after.

This was made as Lake promised to take the matter to the Arizona Supreme Court, even though she and her lawyers could not provide sufficient evidence of election fraud in Maricopa County.

She long teased a "bombshell" that would prove alleged widespread misconduct that could have impacted the results of the 2022 midterm election. However, that came to nothing as the court found that much of Lake's evidence was not sufficient. Despite this, Lake still doubled down on her election fraud claims publicly, even though she really had no case legally.

Kari Lake May Have to Pay Katie Hobbs's Attorney's Fees and More as Sanctions

Fox 10 Phoenix managed to look at the court documents, revealing that Governor-elect Katie Hobbs filed an application for attorney's fees and expenses against Lake. She is requesting about $37,000 paid as a sanction.

She cited that the request was part of her "character of work," as this was considered an "expedited election proceeding requiring extensive work by her counsel." The governor-elect claimed that since she was victorious in the case, Lake should pay her back for her attorney fees.

However, Lake may end up paying more than that, as the Elias Law Group, which represented Hobbs in the case, stated that their costs could be as high as $450,000.

Maricopa County Has Had Enough of Kari Lake and Her 'Frivolous' Lawsuit

In their separate filing, attorneys for Maricopa County have stated it was already time to put an end to Lake's unfounded attacks on the elections, according to The Independent.

In their statement, attorneys representing Maricopa County, Arizona's most populous county, which includes Phoenix, stated, "Enough really is enough. It is past time to end unfounded attacks on elections and unwarranted accusations against elections officials. This matter was brought without any legitimate justification, let alone a substantial one."

They noted Lake's repeated statements that she would only accept the results if she won and added that the entire purpose of her failed lawsuits was to sow doubt into the "integrity and security of the 2022 General Election in Maricopa County."

Maricopa County lawyers also argued that her obvious attempts to plant baseless doubts into the minds of the electorate were already worthy of sanctions as prescribed by Arizona state law.

The attorneys also called her lawsuit "groundless" and "frivolous," adding that she not only failed to publicly acknowledge that she has lost but also filed a seventy-page election contest lawsuit that has already been deemed groundless.

In the county's filing, CNBC reported that Lake "should not be used to harass political opponents and sow completely unfounded doubts about the integrity of elections."
