SNAP Benefits 2023: You Can Use Your Food Stamp Money at Subway, But There's a Catch
SNAP benefits payments can be used in various ways, with users not even knowing that they are allowed to use their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments to get discounts, aside from basic food necessities.
Among the perks of SNAP benefits recipients include free or reduced admission to more than 850 museums throughout the United States through the Museums for All program.
SNAP benefits recipients will only need to provide their Electronic Benefits Transfer card, with admission being $3 or less for up to four people per EBT card.
SNAP EBT cards allow up to four visitors at the Museums for All rate. However, locations may allow more than four to enter.
The Museums for All is a national program and is open to participation by any type of museum, with the products first being launched between 2014 and 2015. It was an initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The program has also served more than four million visitors nationwide.
There is another program under SNAP benefits that could benefit certain recipients, which would allow them to purchase hot meals on food prepared on the site of the store.

SNAP Benefits Subway
SNAP benefits recipients can buy prepared meals at authorized restaurants using their EBT cards through the Restaurant Meals Program.
RMP is imposed on several states such as Arizona, California, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
Subway also participates in the program, but only accepts EBT at select locations in California, Rhode Island, and Arizona.
To buy a meal in Subway using your SNAP benefits through RMP, an individual must be 60 years of age or older, disabled, homeless, or a spouse of a SNAP client who is eligible for the RMP.
SNAP recipients outside of California, Rhode Island, and Arizona can still buy at some Subway locations.
Certain Subway branches may accept EBT cards for cold food items. The decision usually falls on the manager and is usually rare to procure meals from Subway using EBT cards outside states participating in the RMP.
SNAP Benefits Payments
SNAP benefits allow you to buy edible items at participating groceries or retailers. SNAP-eligible items include fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy, bread, cereal, and other snack foods and non-alcoholic drinks.
SNAP benefits also allow its participants to procure spices and seasonings, which may be powdered, dried, or extracted.
SNAP benefits recipients can also buy honey, maple syrup, cane sugar, and other natural or artificial sweeteners.
Cake and brownie mixes are also available for SNAP benefits recipients, including other baked goods and ice cream.
SNAP benefits can also buy seeds and plants, which can be more economical than buying produce in the store.
Convenience stores and farmer markets also accept EBT cards as a form of payment. Some farmer markets offer to double the value of your benefits.
At the start of the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture allows recipients to shop for basic food necessities online through the SNAP online purchasing pilot.
