'The Interview' Movie Trailer, Cast and Plot: Seth Rogen & James Franco Anger North Korea, Akin to 'Team America: World Police' [Video]
While the Korean government has already criticized "The Interview" despite the film not yet having being released, creators Seth Rogen and James Franco show no signs of not releasing it.
According to Time, North Korea's leader is not pleased with the comedians' ideas for an action comedy film.
The North Korean government calls the film a "wanton act of terror" created by "gangster moviemakers," as reported by state-run news agency KCNA. The report adds that the government promises "merciless" retaliation against the United States should the film continue its release in October. According to the spokesman, "screening a movie that portrays an attack" on the country's top leadership is intolerable and an act of terror.
Rogen appears to be taking the whole thing lightly, even tweeting "I hope he likes it!!" in reference to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The action comedy film was directed, produced and written by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen and revolves around the story of celebrity journalists David Skylark and Aaron Rappaport, played by James Franco and Seth Rogen, respectively. The reporters find their way to an interview with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, prompting the CIA to recruit the duo as assassins, despite them being highly unqualified.
This is not the first time North Korea has been outraged by an American movie; the parody film "Team America: World Police" infuriated Kim Jong Un's predecessor, Kim Jong Il. The "South Park" creators released the film around 10 years ago.
"Team America: World Police" received generally positive reviews, and the team behind "The Interview" expects the same, especially considering Rogen is adept at humor. The film's teaser photo encapsulates the hilarity that is about to ensue, amplified by the controversy it is enjoying -- which may be helping its cause.
