University of Pennsylvania, Where Joe Biden's Classified Documents Found, Received $54 Million in Donations From Chinese Donors During His Presidency
President Joe Biden's think tank office is based in the University of Pennsylvania, which was discovered to have received $54.6 million worth of donations from 2014 to June 2019.
The said donations were gifted by Chinese donors. The University of Pennsylvania housed Biden's academic center, which was named Penn Biden Center, as reported by the New York Post.
Records showed that UPenn received $15.8 million in anonymous Chinese gifts in 2018, with one $14.5 million in May 2018.
Virginia-based watchdog National Legal and Policy Center alleged that the donations may have been connected to the first son Hunter Biden's business engagements in China, as shown in complaints sent in 2020 to the Departments of Education and Justice.
The group asked last week U.S. Attorney David Weiss to step in and probe the Chinese donations to the school as part of Hunter's federal tax probe.
Meanwhile, a University of Pennsylvania spokesman denied any anonymous Chinese donors gifting the center with donations.
Stephen McCarthy noted that the Penn Biden Center "has never solicited any gifts" from any Chinese donors and has never solicited any gifts for the think tank office.
Classified Documents Found at The University of Pennsylvania
Biden's lawyers turned over at least 10 classified documents discovered at the Biden Penn Center from his vice presidency.
The National Archives received the classified materials in November. It was later on revealed to the public in January.
Additional batches of classified documents were found by Biden's lawyers at his Delaware home in Wilmington.
Some of the classified documents found in Biden's former private office reportedly include materials marked as top secret, as reported by BBC News.
None of the documents found at one of Biden's Delaware homes include top secret files.
Republican Rep. Jim Jordan asked whether the department had "actively concealed the information from the public" ahead of the 2022 election.
Jordan added in his letter that the American public deserves "transparency and accountability" from the highest branch of government.
Republican Calls for Probe on Classified Documents
House Oversight and Accountability Committee chairman Rep. James Comer is asking for records related to China and its donations to the university.
Comer is also requesting the list of the Chinese donors to both entities since the end of the Obama administration.
The committee chairman also seeks information on all Penn Biden Center employees and a list of people who had keycard access to the think tank's office.
In a letter to the university president Liz Magill, Comer said that it is "imperative" to know whether Biden's family or associates got access to the classified documents found in the think tank office.
He also noted the overlap between the think tank's employees and officials serving in Biden's administration, which includes State Secretary Antony Blinken and Under Secretary for Defense Colin Kahl.
Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel over the probe of the classified materials.
