A shocking accident happened in the middle of a busy highway in Harris County, Texas, on Sunday morning when an airplane crashed there and caught fire.

The crash happened on the northbound lanes of SH-99 between Cypress Rosehill Road and Telge Road at around 11:30 a.m.

The crash has affected vehicular traffic around the area, with Fox News showing a video of the burning aircraft in the middle of the Texas highway.

Smoke can be seen billowing out of the cockpit while one of its wings is on fire. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is now looking into the accident, along with DPS troopers and the FAA.

Crews, who rushed into the crash site, asked people to avoid the area as investigations continued.

Pilot Survives Texas Plane Crash

In a press conference, DPS officials said they believed that nobody was injured in the crash. They said only the pilot was in the plane and he miraculously survived without any injuries.

According to FAA officials, the plane, a single-engine Beech M35, clipped a big rig trailer before hitting a concrete barrier between Cypress Rosehill and Telge Road.

It then reportedly caught fire when it landed. Both the plane's pilot and the trailer's driver were reportedly fine.

Reports said the plane only caught fire once it got to the ground, as the fire started when the wings rubbed against the concrete barriers, and there was also a fuel leak.

The Rosehill Tomball Fire Department put out the fire. According to Fox 26, the plane was trying to land at an airport but lost power as it approached the runway.

The pilot, identified as a Detroit resident, was reportedly conducting a survey assignment when the accident happened.

Flight tracker FlightAware noted that the aircraft was a five-seater, single-engine aircraft manufactured in 1960.

Four Dead in an Earlier Texas Plane Crash

The crash happened just a week after an aircraft crashed in Lavaca County, Texas. However, unlike this latest one, that crash was fatal as it resulted in four deaths and one injury.

According to ABC News, the plane crashed in a foggy area at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, less than a mile from the Yoakum Municipal Airport in south-central Texas.

The one surviving passenger was seriously injured and taken to a hospital in the small city of Victoria.

The victims were part of the Harvest Church in Germantown, Tennessee. The church confirmed the identities of those who passed away.

They were identified as Bill Garner, Steve Tucker, Tyler Patterson, and Tyler Springer. Pastor Kennon Vaughan was the lone survivor of that fatal crash and is now in stable condition.

The aircraft reportedly departed Memphis International Airport a few hours before the crash. It was identified as a Piper PA-46-350P, and the FAA is still investigating why it crashed.
