Rough Childhood

The 47-year-old actor was born Jose Pedro Balmaceda Pascal in Santiago, Chile. His family fled to the U.S. after they found asylum when he was nine months old.

Pedro Pascal was raised in California and Texas when he was older. His father was a fertility doctor who, along with other doctors, got slapped with accusations of egg swapping and tax evasion.

According to The Thing, Pascal's mom worked as a child psychologist, but she had mental health issues and killed herself when he was a teenager. Pascal used her surname professionally to honor her because it is easier to pronounce than his father's.

Siblings

Pedro Pascal is not the only one in the family in the public eye. He has three siblings, and his younger sister, Lux, is an actress in Chile who starred in film and television and on the stage.

Pedro Pascal Was Desperate to Join 'The Last of Us' Cast

Pedro Pascal previously revealed that he wanted to be in another HBO series like "The Last of Us" as he wished to work with Craig Mazin.

Mazin is "The Last of Us" showrunner who also created the acclaimed limited series "Chernobyl." His wish to work with Mazin rose out of the necessity to be close to greatness, FandomWire reported.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Pascal said: "I knew 'Chernobyl,' which is unrelated to the game, is Craig Mazin's show, and I would've, I don't know, murdered somebody to work with Craig I suppose. That's a horrible public confession to make, but that was my introduction."

The actor has a close tie to the LGBTQ community through his sister Lux. Pascal has famously played Oberyn Martell, an openly bisexual character, in the "Game Of Thrones."

Around that time, a group in Reddit seemingly comprised of straight men declared themselves "Gay For Oberyn." In 2017, Pascal told Los Angeles Times that he was flattered.

"It's so wonderful. I think it's all a spectrum, right? Straight men can have - do have - crushes on other men. It doesn't make them gay, it doesn't make them bi. I was super-flattered," the actor said.

Bromance

Pedro Pascal is good friends with another successful Latino leading actor, Oscar Isaac. They became best friends after meeting on the set of an off-Broadway play "Beauty of the Father" in 2005.

Pascal has even once called Isaac the "love of his life." However, there had been no real evidence of a romantic relationship since Isaac married his wife, Elvira Lind, in 2017.
