Christian Serratos: Where You’ve Seen Her Before Her Netflix Role as Selena Quintanilla
Christian Serratos was born to a mother of Mexican descent, who worked as a public relations and marketing agent. Her father, an Italian descent, was working as a set construction worker.
As a child, she participated in several activities before she decided to focus on acting. The Hispanic actress learned skating at the age of three and even joined numerous competitive events.
She then took Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and dancing. Serratos had her first big acting break in 2004 as Suzie Crabgrass in Nickelodeon's "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide."
In 2020, Serratos managed to land the role of Selena for the Netflix series adaptation of the life of the Mexican-American pop star, who died early at age 23. But before her Selena Quintanilla role, here are some of the movies and TV shows she starred in.
Christian Serratos Films and TV Shows
Christian Serratos has been known for her notable role in the eight-year-run series of "The Walking Dead" as Rosita Espinosa. Rosita's finale in the famed zombie apocalypse show caused quite a noise after Serratos' character revealed a bite on her back, signifying the end of her life in the TV series.
Rosita's death is one of the finale's biggest moments, which Serratos actually pitched. She said she wanted the audience to have an emotional experience during the finale. Serratos then added that she felt that they owed it "to the fans to break their hearts one last time," according to Entertainment Weekly.
She then noted that she was lucky to have outlived her character in the comic book, including the chance to stay on the show for such a long time. She also had a voice acting credit for Netflix's "Love, Death & Robots," an anthology of short stories of varying genres.
Serratos was also part of the Twilight Saga, which starred Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. She played the role of Angela Webber. Serratos became Angela Webber in "Twilight," "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."
One of her most recent and most-talked-about roles is her portrayal of Selena in the Netflix series, with the late pop star's brother approving Serratos' representation.
Christian Serratos on Netflix's 'Selena: The Series'
According to CNN, A.B. Quintanilla, the brother of the slain Tejano star, felt like he was watching his sister's performance while watching Christian Serratos. He said if Selena had seen the series, he thinks "she would be ecstatic and as happy" as he was.
Serratos, for her part, noted that she grew up loving the Mexican icon who "crossed so many generations, and new generations." She added that she wanted her three-year-old daughter, Wolfgang, to see her portray the late singer, according to Variety.
The actress gave birth to her daughter with singer David Boyd in 2014. Serratos said that for her daughter to see that she played "an iconic Mexican woman like her I think, is really powerful."
