Magic Johnson Slams Massive Beyonce Disrespect

Two stars set a new record this week, but only one received the credit they deserved, said NBA legend Magic Johnson.

Johnson tweeted criticism of the Grammys 2023 for their lack of attention to the historic nature of Beyonce's weekend victory. He compared this to the attention the NBA gave to LeBron James' scoring record.

The former Lakers point guard expressed his displeasure with the Recording Academy's treatment of Beyoncé on Wednesday, writing, "Over the weekend, I was very disappointed with the lack of tribute and recognition the Recording Academy showed Beyoncé after she became the most decorated artist in Grammy history with 32 Grammy awards."

Beyonce became the most decorated performer in Grammy history with four wins on Sunday night, bringing her total number of trophies to 32, Billboard noted.

During the ceremony, both host Trevor Noah and James Corden, who gave the "Break My Soul" singer the award for best dance/electronic album, which broke a record, made a big deal out of the significant accomplishment.

Beyonce's emotional acceptance speech, in which she thanked the Recording Academy, drew the attention of the whole audience.

Meanwhile, the NBA interrupted the game to play a congratulatory video in James' honor when he broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 38,387-point career scoring record on Tuesday while playing against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

They also had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar attend to embrace LeBron James on the court and give his successor an honorary basketball. Unfortunately, the Academy could not have invited the previous all-time Grammy winner to be present at the Beyoncé ceremony as Sir Georg Solti, a classical conductor and the last record holder, passed away in 1997.

Beyonce Still Doesn't Have Grammy's Album of the Year Award

Beyonce has now been defeated four times in a row in the album of the year, the most recent time being by Renaissance. She has been the most nominated artist at the ceremony ever since she was eligible (2010, 2015, 2017, and 2022).

Although she has been nominated in the "Big Four" categories of a grab bag, pop, and rock, all but one of Beyoncé's 32 Grammy awards have come in "Black" categories like R&B and hip-hop, AndScape says.

Despite the critical and financial success of Beyonce's latest album of the year snub, Renaissance exposes the institution's evident misunderstanding of the importance of Black music in popular culture and moves the Grammys and its governing body closer to losing any credibility.

NBA Legend Magic Johnson Reacts to Lebron James' Record-Breaking Score

LeBron James became the NBA's all-time leading scorer while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, and NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson spoke candidly about the significance of this moment.

After James made history on Tuesday night, Johnson told reporters, "Means even more to myself that you're wearing that purple and gold and broke it as a Laker."

"I never thought that Kareem's scoring record would be broken by anybody," Johnson added.

In the NBA, Abdul-Jabbar became the all-time top scorer on April 5, 1984, and Johnson was there to witness it. He broke Wilt Chamberlain's record of 31,419 points with 22 points in a 129-115 win over the Utah Jazz, per Bleacher Report.

The fact that James has become the NBA's all-time leading scorer ensures that a Laker will keep the mark for the foreseeable future.

Magic Johnson also commended James for keeping his commitment after signing with the Lakers as a free agent in July 2018.
