Madonna's Brother Dead at 66: Is There a Cause of Death?
Anthony Ciccone, the brother of Madonna, has died at the age of 66. He was the eldest sibling of the "Queen of Pop."
A Page Six source noted that most of the family members "had a difficult relationship with him" due to alcoholism. The source added that Madonna helped to support her brother when he was accepting that support.
Ciccone was reportedly in contact with family and the singer-songwriter in his final months. However, he declined the support the rehab facility offered.
Joe Henry, a musician who married Madonna's sister, Melanie Ciccone, also confirmed the death of Ciccone's eldest brother on Instagram Saturday.
Henry wrote in a post that his brother-in-law passed away "last evening," adding that he has known the elder Ciccone since he was 15 in "the spring of our lives in Michigan."
The "Time is A Lion" singer also shared a black-and-white photo of Ciccone. He then went on to describe his brother-in-law as a "complex character" while saying that he loved him and understood the man "better than I was sometimes willing to let on."
Ciccone's cause of death is unclear at this time.
Madonna's Brother Anthony Ciccone
Anthony Ciccone opened up in a 2011 interview that he was "homeless on the street" and had been living under a bridge in Michigan, PEOPLE reported.
He said he became homeless more than a year ago after losing his job at the Michigan vineyard owned by his father, Silvio Anthony.
He then noted that his family turned their back on him when he was having a hard time, referring to his sister as a "multibazillionaire" while he was homeless on the street, The Washington Post reported.
Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone later confirmed they got their brother "back home" and was recovering after being admitted to a treatment center. Christopher was known to have written a tell-all book about Madonna entitled "Life With My Sister Madonna."
Ciccone, who was 55 when he spoke about being homeless, noted that he got frostbite on his feet "last winter," with his friend losing all ten toes.
In a 2008 Good Morning America interview, Madonna's younger brother said he thinks Madonna was a "lonely person" and that "it truly is lonely at the top."
Madonna's Family
Aside from her large family with several siblings, the "Material Girl" singer takes pride in her motherhood, Us Magazine reported.
She became a first-time mother with the birth of her daughter Lourdes Leon in October 1996. She was in a relationship at the time with Carlos Leon.
In 1998, she dated Guy Richie, and they welcomed their son Rocco in August 2020. The two got married a day after Rocco's christening in December 2020.
However, the two divorced, and Madonna started her charity, "Raising Malawi," supporting orphans in the African country by providing educational and medical resources. Madonna then adopted David Banda, Mercy, Stella, and Estere.
