The BBC has finally revealed details of the much-awaited Season 8 of the popular science fiction television series "Doctor Who."

Season 8, which first features the new Doctor played by Peter Capaldi, will premiere at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. 23. It will kick off with a feature-length episode with the title "Deep Breath" in which the 12th Doctor will make his first appearance. The BBC made the announcement together with the release of a new teaser for the long-running series and fan favorite. In the 15-second teaser, Peter Capaldi is seen with Clara Oswald in a scene where they discuss moral dilemmas. Jenna Coleman returns to play the role of the Doctor's companion, Clara Oswald.

Peter Capaldi takes on the role that Matt Smith left behind as the famous Doctor. He first made an appearance last November for the 50th Anniversary Special of the show, as well as towards the end of the Christmas Special last year. Fans and viewers should become more familiarized with the actor who plays the new Doctor as he will be on the first ever "Doctor Who World Tour," which begins this summer in Wales. Capaldi and Coleman are expected to reach New York on Aug. 14 just in time for them to make it to the premiere. The two will also be making stops in Seoul, London, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City as part of the world tour that will hit almost every continent around the globe.

Other members of the cast who will be joining Capaldi include Samuel Anderson as Danny Pink, a Coal Hill School teacher where Clara works, as well as Ben Miller, Tom Riley, and Keeley Hawes, who will join the cast as guest stars. The BBC initially posted an Aug. 27 premiere date on its website but has since removed the teaser poster as they have officially released the exact date for the first episode of Season 8.
