Despite all the mounting investigations, criticisms, and calls for him to resign, it seems like embattled Republican Representative George Santos of New York is seeking reelection. He reportedly filed paperwork that indicated his intent to run in 2024.

However, the Associated Press pointed out that this filing with the Federal Election Commission does not necessarily mean that Santos will run for a second term. This just means that his campaign committees can resume raising money, with some of it possibly going to be used for his future legal bills.

The New York Republican representative has been under fire even before he took his oath of office since it was discovered that he lied about his background, including his false claims about working for Goldman Sachs, as well as being Jewish.

As it turns out, Santos is Brazilian and has lived in Brazil for quite some time. He used to be a drag queen in the South American country and is even under investigation there for allegedly using a stolen checkbook.

George Santos is also facing various investigations in the United States, from claims of him being involved in various cases of fraud, such as stealing puppies from Amish breeders to scamming a veteran. He is also facing a House Ethics Committee investigation, which is also looking into the congressman's financial claims, as well as accusations that he sexually abused a prospective aide.

George Santos Talks About the Oscars and Chris Rock

Santos had a reprieve from all the investigations he was facing as he sat down with reporter Matthew Foldi for an interview. There, he discussed the "Slap Heard Around the World" between Will Smith and Chris Rock. The congressman admitted that he thought the entire incident was stupid and praised Chris Rock, calling him a "genius."

Santos stated that he would not watch the Oscars this year and said that he did not want to see a celebration of "fancy people" and "elitists" such as Quentin Tarantino and James Cameron. He claimed that the two directors, as well as Steven Spielberg, had "fallen to the woke."

Santos went on to criticize the Oscars, as well as praised his favorite actors. "Let's be honest, Saw was a fucking great horror movie. But the Oscars don't have a horror category. Resident Evil, great cinematics. Milla Jovovich is arguably one of my favorite actresses of all time. It's her, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett, and Gerard Butler."

According to The Guardian, he continued to heap praise on Bassett, saying, "she's Meryl Streep, the Black version. She's just as good. She's fantastic."

George Santos Wants Presidents to Have Cognitive Ability Tests Annually

While facing congressional investigations, as well as talking about Hollywood, Santos introduced a bill on Monday that would require the sitting president to undergo an annual cognitive evaluation.

According to The Hill, this came after GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley called for "mental competency tests" for politicians older than 75. This is the second piece of legislation Santos has put forth since coming to the Capitol.

"Regardless of political affiliation, this should be a common sense and bipartisan agreement that when a man or a woman becomes President, they submit to an annual cognitive evaluation," wrote the congressman in his statement. "Physical examination results are publicly released throughout their time in office, and a thorough cognitive assessment should also be included, and failure to comply will result in no federal funds being obligated or expended for official travel."
