King Charles Knights Queen Guitarist Brian May in Buckingham Palace
King Charles made Queen guitarist Brian May a Knight Bachelor during an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
He was given the honor for his music and charity. May wrote on his Instagram account that there are "no words" for such recognition. He then posted a photo of himself while King Charles laid a sword on his shoulder, according to PEOPLE.
May was among the 1,100 people celebrated in the 2023 New Year Honors List, which is the new monarch's first New Year Honors list.
Buckingham Palace made the announcement in December 2022.
May was also awarded for his advocacy against badger culling and fox hunting through his animal welfare group Save Me, which was created in 2010 and named after the Queen song.
May said that his wife, Anita Dobson, is thrilled to use the title of Lady May after he received the Knight Bachelor honor.
The Queen band member said it makes him feel proud that his wife gets an honor beside him as "God knows I wouldn't be here without her."
King Charles's New Year Honors List
May said he would do his "very best to be worthy" after being named to the list.
Charles's first New Year Honors list was first revealed in December 2022. It included Louenna Hood, who is a 38-year-old who raised thousands to help Ukrainian refugees. Hood was recognized for her fundraising efforts.
Palace advisers Jason Knauf and Sara Latham were also awarded gongs. Both have served as top palace advisers.
Knauf started his palace career as the communications secretary to Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle before he became a senior adviser to William and Kate.
It was not the first time that May made the trip to Buckingham Palace. He performed "God Save the Queen" in 2002 from the palace roof during Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee.
In 2005, he also attended Music Day at the palace and was appointed as a Commander of Order of the British Empire.
King Charles's Coronation
King Charles's coronation will be held in May, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children, Archie and Lilibet, have yet to receive their invitations to their grandfather's coronation.
Marie Claire reported that sources from Buckingham Palace did not mention whether Archie or Lilibet have been included in the plans.
Archie's fourth birthday will also be in May.
A royal source said that the two were "very young" when asked if Archie and Lilibet were invited to the event.
Meanwhile, William and Kate Middleton's children are all expected to attend Charles's coronation. It was reported that Prince George is expected to have a starring role in the proceedings, being an heir to the throne.
Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales are thinking about whether they should take Prince Louis to the ceremony but are leaning toward including him in the coronation. Louis is just 13 months older than Archie.
