A Minnesota man is charged with second-degree murder after fatally stabbing his wife during a Bible study earlier this week.

According to CBS News, the stabbing occurred Tuesday in a home on the 1000 block of Maryland Avenue East in St. Paul. The Ramsey County Attorney's Office has charged 40-year-old Robert Castillo in connection to the stabbing.

After receiving a report of a stabbing at around 9 p.m., St. Paul police reportedly went to the home and found Corinna Woodhull, 41, with severe injuries to her arms, torso, and chest.

Police said several people were holding Castillo down on the floor. Woodhull was treated at the scene before being taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Minnesota Man and Wife 'Acting Normally' Before Stabbing Incident

The Minnesota man's sister said his brother was holding her hand and kissing her before the stabbing. They were "acting normally," she said.

According to The Daily Mail, Robert Castillo stabbed Corinna Woodhull with a six-inch hunting knife in front of his sister and brother.

CBS Minnesota reported that Castillo stabbed Woodhull 20 times after the Minnesota man had whispered something in her ear.

The mother-of-five reportedly tried to grab Castillo by the hair to pull him away from her, but his sister said family members intervened and dragged him away.

By the time the ambulances came, she could not breathe. One of the stab wounds had reportedly pierced her heart.

When the police arrived, numerous members of Castillo's family held him to the ground. According to the complaint,

another witness told police they believed Castillo would attack more individuals if his weapon had not been taken. His sister told police that his brother always kept the knife on him to "protect himself."

Woodhull's death was determined to be a homicide by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

Minnesota Man's Previous Criminal Charges

Police discovered an open warrant for an unrelated offense in a separate county for an alleged assault on a prison guard while Robert Castillo was an inmate at the Department of Corrections at Stillwater, Fox News reported.

The Minnesota man has eight felony convictions on his record, including striking the mother of his child with a hammer, which cracked her skull and broke her arms. He was also convicted of a crime related to stabbing a former roommate.

Woodhull, who worked at a substance abuse treatment facility, overcame drug addiction and depression, according to a GoFundMe page set up by her friend Eriz Meszaros to raise money to pay for her funeral.

"Corrina was an advocate for those in recovery; she had a passion for helping others experiencing substance use disorder and domestic abuse and violence... She loved her children so much. You would find Corrina most days helping at church," Meszaros wrote.

The criminal complaint noted that Woodhull and Castillo were married for "a couple of years" and lived together until they started having marital troubles a month ago.

If convicted of the murder charge, the Minnesota man faces up to 40 years in prison.
