Country Music Television held its annual music awards, CMT Awards 2023, at Austin, Texas's Moody Center Sunday.

Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown, both nominated this year and performed during the broadcast, hosted the celebratory event where the winners were determined by popular choice, per CNN.

To cap off the evening, Kane and his wife, Katelyn Brown, became the first husband-and-wife team to receive the coveted video of the year award for their 2022 song "Thank God," which was also Kane's and Katelyn's first win in the category.

Rapper and country singer Jelly Roll also did well on Sunday, bringing home three trophies, one of which was for male breakthrough video of the year.

Celebrating the decade anniversary of "CMT Next Women of Country," the ceremony featured performances by Gwen Stefani, Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Keith Urban, and Alanis Morissette, who made her CMT debut with her performance.

Kelsea Ballerini

Kelsea Ballerini opened the event with a heartfelt tribute to the ever-increasing list of friends, family, survivors, witnesses, and responders whose lives are forever altered by gun violence in a heartbreaking prerecorded address that left her in tears.

She remembered the six people, three students and three faculty members, who had been murdered randomly on March 27, 2023, at a Nashville school shooting at The Covenant School, said Billboard.

Carly Pearce, Gwen Stefani, Ingrid Andress, Lainey Wilson, Madeline Edward, and Morgan Wade

Carly Pearce and Gwen Stefani gave a stellar rendition of "Just A Girl" by No Doubt.

Ingrid Andress, Lainey Wilson, Madeline Edward, and Morgan Wade slayed "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morisette.

Allman Brothers' Warren Hayne and Chuck Leavell, Guns N' Roses' Slash, Cody Johnson, Bad Company's Paul Rodgers, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Wynonna Judd, and LeAnn Rimes reunited to honor Lynard Skynard.

The tribute performed two of the band's biggest hits, including "Sweet Home Alabama." It was held a few weeks after the death of Gary Rossington, the band's last original founding member and guitarist.

Kane and Katelyn Brown

After tying the knot in 2018, Kane Brown and his wife Katelyn made their CMT premiere as a duet.

In February 2023, their duet "Thank God" topped the Country Airplay chart, making them the second married pair to achieve this after Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, country music's first power couple.
