King Charles Coronation: 'Queen Camilla' Used Officially for the First Time on Invitation
King Charles' coronation invitations had been sent to the guests, with the "Queen Camilla" title being officially used for the first time.
According to BBC News, it was the first time that "Queen Camilla" was officially used, marking the transition from the "Queen Consort" title.
The invitations were sent to around 2,000 guests, with Camilla's grandchildren to be among the pages at Westminster Abbey along with the King's grandson, Prince George.
Only a month before the coronation, the royal couple also released a new official photo. A royal source suggested that in the first part of the new reign, using "Queen Consort" to separate Camilla from the late Queen Elizabeth made sense.
However, the source noted that it is an "appropriate time" to officially change to "Queen Camilla" from the coronation. The late Queen had publicly endorsed Camilla earlier, saying that Charles' second wife should be called Queen Consort.
It was done when there were still suggestions that she should be called Princess Consort. The coronation invitation used several symbolic figures to characterize the new monarch.
King Charles Coronation Invitation
The coronation invitation used the "green man" folklore figure and was adorned with ivy, hawthorn, and oak leaves. Buckingham Palace said it symbolizes spring and rebirth, celebrating a new reign.
Andrew Jamieson made the illustration, which also includes images of wildflowers, birds, insects, and national and heraldic emblems.
Those who received an invitation include U.S. President Joe Biden, who will skip the coronation. The president noted that First Lady Jill Biden would attend the coronation on behalf of the U.S.
Biden congratulated King Charles on the upcoming event while also suggesting his desire "to meet with the King in the United Kingdom at a future date," according to CNN.
U.S. officials noted that Biden is following precedent as no previous U.S. presidents have been present at a British monarch's coronation.
King Charles Coronation
Part of the coronation will include King Charles and Camilla traveling to Westminster Abbey from Buckingham Palace for "The King's Procession."
CBS News reported that senior members of the royal family will make an appearance on the balcony once the couple arrives at Buckingham Palace.
It is not yet sure whether the Sussex family will be part of the coronation on May 6. According to an ET Online source, the royal family reportedly feels Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attending the coronation could divert attention away from the event.
The source said the "big concern" is that "chaos could overshadow" the coronation if the Sussexes were to attend the coronation and could "steal the spotlight" from King Charles.
The insider noted that there are also fears that the Sussexes' attendance could bring more private matters to the public.
The same source added that efforts are being made to prevent that from happening. Prince Harry and his family were reportedly invited via email.
