Infamous Doomsday Cult Mom Lori Vallow Daybell is on trial for killing her kids and using their insurance money. Now, her surviving child has testified against her in court, with a recording of him confronting her being played during the trial.

Colby Ryan, Lori Vallow Daybell's oldest child, took the stand to testify against his mother, who was responsible for the deaths of his two siblings, Joshua "JJ" Vallow and Tylee Ryan. After his testimony, prosecutors played a call between Colby Ryan and his mother, which happened shortly after the bodies of the two children were found in a yard in rural Idaho.

Ryan asked his mother if she thought she could hide from him. To this, Vallow Daybell responded, "I'm not hiding, why would you think I'm hiding?"

Her son, who was clearly angry in that call, then answered back, "Probably because you murdered my siblings! Maybe you should understand," but the "Doomsday Cult Mom" interrupted, "I didn't. I'm sorry you feel that way." Vallow Daybell then insisted that her son cannot know what happened to his siblings because he was not there. She also insisted that JJ and Tylee were now "happy" in the afterlife.

Ryan testified that his mother lied to him multiple times when his siblings were still considered missing. During the call, he confronted his mother about this, saying, "To know that they're gone, and you knew! And my phone is being texted by my little sister, who's not even alive!" He added, "My poor brother, who is the sweetest little kid ever - for what purpose? You tell me this is God's will: For my whole family, including my stepfather, to be dead."

Lori Vallow Daybell's Former Friend Talks About Doomsday Cult Mom's Beliefs in Court

Zulema Pastenes, a friend of Vallow Daybell, talked about her friend's warped beliefs. Pastenes testified that the "Doomsday Cult Mom" claimed her children had been "possessed" and "attacked" by demons before she killed them.

Pastenes is the widow of Vallow's brother, Alex Cox, who shot and killed Vallow Daybell's former husband, Charles Vallow, back in April 2019. When she asked her husband why she did this, he told her, "Zulema, he was a zombie."

The Daily Mail reported that during the trial, Pastines claimed that Vallow Daybell often told friends she was visited by Jesus Christ before she allegedly murdered her children. Pastines also testified that Cox "believed everything" that Vallow Daybell and her current husband, Chad Daybell, told them. She admitted that she believes the couple "made it all up."

Did the Doomsday Cult Mom Kill Her Kids for Her Beliefs or for Insurance Money?

According to The Independent, Ryan also asked his mother if Jesus had really told her to murder his siblings. Vallow Daybell and her husband, Chad Daybell had been known to perform ritualistic "castings" to drive out demons from "dark spirits."

However, another angle for the couple killing their children was so they could use their children's social security and survivor benefits, as well as life insurance money.

Tylee's father Joe Ryan died in 2018 while JJ's father Charles Vallow died in 2019. Together, the two kids collect almost $6,000 a month in social security and survivor benefits. However, while the kids were missing and presumed to already be dead, their mother continued collecting these benefits.
