California Teen Dies, 5 Others Injured After Gunman Opened Fire Outside House Party
Tragedy struck in Chico, California, in the early hours of Saturday when a drive-by shooting left one teenager dead and five others injured, according to the Daily Mail.
The victims, aged 17 to 21, were fired upon in the parking lot of an apartment complex after attending a large gathering in the area. The deceased has been identified as 17-year-old Justina Stubbe.
A 19-year-old male, a 21-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old girl were all taken to the hospital, but their wounds were not thought to be life-threatening. Meanwhile, two men, ages 18 and 20, were brought to a local hospital and later released.
The reason behind the attack is yet to be confirmed, said Chico Police Lt. Terry Tupper. While it remains unclear if any of the victims were targeted specifically, Tupper stated that the shooting was not random.
In the wake of the tragedy, friends and family members of the victims have expressed their grief and shock. Clint Lobo, a parent of one of the victims and two others, has spoken out against the violence, stating that the shootings must stop.

The California Party Shooting
Police in Chico, California, responded to a call of gunfire at a house party on West Seventh Street at around midnight on Saturday, per Action News Now.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found shell casings from two gunshots in the front yard.
The suspect allegedly fired a gun after being told to leave the party. Following the shooting, the suspect purportedly hit one person in the head with the weapon, causing minor injuries.
Meanwhile, another individual suffered a facial gash after being struck by a thrown bottle.
"At this time, it doesn't appear the suspect who discharged the firearm and struck the victim in the head with the firearm was associated with the victim who was injured by the bottle," police said.
Both victims were treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
California Party Shooting Was an Isolated Incident, Police Said
The police had been called to the location twice, according to KIRO 7, adding that the police had responded to the same address 30 minutes earlier after receiving a report of a person brandishing a firearm.
Police stated during a news conference on Saturday that the shooting looked to be an isolated incident and posed no ongoing threat to the neighborhood.
Police have not revealed details about the shooter's identity.
The shooting reportedly occurred around 1:27 am, culminating in events that began at 12:27 am.
Police were alerted to a house party three hours before the tragic California party shooting occurred when the hosts had asked someone to leave the event because of their behavior.
Police in Chico, California, closed several roads on Saturday as they searched for evidence following a violent altercation that injured two people, per ABC23.
At least three parked cars in the area were found to have damaged windows and bullet holes.
The incident occurred near California State University in Chico, a city of around 101,000 residents located 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of Sacramento.
Lt. Brian Miller described the area as a "hot point" for police service calls. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details are yet to be released by authorities.
