George Santos Admits To Stealing Checks in Brazil Court
Embattled New York Republican Congressman George Santos has admitted to theft in a deal with authorities from Brazil in exchange for his 2008 charges being dropped in the country.
Back in 2008, while he was still living in Brazil, the controversial New York representative spent about $700 by using a false name and stolen checks in Nitori, Brazil, near Rio de Janeiro.
He used these stolen checks to buy a pair of tennis shoes and other goods, according to the BBC. This happened while he was still 19, which means this was around the same time when he was still also a Brazilian drag queen.
Investigation into the theft of the checks was suspended after authorities in Brazil were unable to locate Santos. However, it was revived after the freshman Republican from New York took office and his political scandal regarding his frequent lies blew up.
Is George Santos Getting Punished in Brazil?
The deal between Santos and Brazilian prosecutors stated that the congressman from New York must not just confess to stealing those checks as a teen, but also pay almost $5,000 in fines and restitution in exchange for dropping the charges.
In other words, his only form of punishment for this case would be a fine and admitting he stole those checks. The congressman reportedly appeared at a court in Nitori remotely, and it was there that he publicly admitted to the deed.

NPR pointed out that the confession from the embattled Republican representative came just a day after he pleaded not guilty to separate charges in the United States. These involve much of Santos's various bogus claims about his campaign's finances and about lying to Congress.
He pleaded not guilty to all 13 felony charges and was released from federal custody after paying a $500,000 bond as the legal proceedings were moving forward. He is also being investigated by the House Ethics Committee for various wrongdoings, including sexually abusing a potential staffer.
The Brazilian-American congressman took a page from his ally, former President Donald Trump's playbook, and called the accusations against him a "witch hunt."
New Audio Showed That George Santos, Who Claimed To Be Jewish, Mocking Jewish People
In order to win Jewish votes in his district in New York, Santos leaned in on his area's massive Jewish community by claiming to be Jewish himself. However, it was exposed that he was lying, as he is of Brazilian origin and had no Jewish blood.
According to Insider, Santos derisively talked about being stuck in a room with Jewish people while also mocking them by using a heavily Yiddish accent. "If you sit in a room with a lot of Jews, you're f**ked," he said. "It's funny when the -isms start coming out, right? 'Oh, he's such a mensch, he's such a mensch.'
Like many Latinos, Santos is a Catholic and has since backpedaled, claiming that he used to describe himself as "Jew-ish" as a "party joke." However, his actions have already been condemned by various Jewish communities long before the new audio of him mocking them even surfaced.
