Court documents reveal that Petito's parents asked for a copy of Roberta Laundrie's letter to their son on multiple occasions, most recently earlier this month.
NBC News received a copy of the letter from Patrick Reilly, the Petito family's attorney, Thursday. The message without a date was written on a brown card.
Roberta Laundrie's heartfelt letter showcased her deep love and unwavering commitment to her son. She assured him their bond was unbreakable, surpassing any challenges they might face. Her words conveyed her unwavering support and loyalty, no matter what.

"If you're in jail, I will bake a cake with a file in it. If you need to dispose of a body, I will show up with a shovel and garbage bags," the letter says.

P. Matthew Luka, the defense attorney representing the parents of Brian Laundrie, has clarified that the "burn after reading" letter holds no relevance to the ongoing civil litigation.
Luka previously argued against its submission, asserting that it is unrelated to the subsequent events. He emphasized that the letter was written before Brian and Gabby's trip, making it irrelevant to the unfortunate incidents.
Despite certain phrasings within the letter that might imply a connection, Luka assured that it is not the case. He acknowledged that the wording in the letter could be misleading but maintained that it has no real connection to the subsequent events.
Brian Laundrie confessed to killing Gabby Petito by leaving a note in his notebook in January 2022, according to the FBI.
The FBI holds Brian Laundrie solely accountable for the "tragic death" of Gabby Petito, as no other individuals have been implicated in the case.
