Homelander, often described as a much darker version of Superman, is the main villain of Amazon Prime Video's "The Boys." However, his actor, Anthony Starr, finds it weird that Americans are idolizing the character, who had been responsible for some of the most heinous acts in the show.

Many in the far-right MAGAverse have come to embrace Homelander, the leader of "The Seven," a team of superheroes based on the Justice League. However, while on the outside, Homelander appears heroic and embracing America, he is a scheming villain who manipulates those around him. Despite his horrendous acts, many still embrace him.

This has made Homelander actor Anthony Starr raise his eyebrows, telling his character's fans, "You are missing the point."

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Starr stated, "There's a very strange thing that's happened with the character, though he is clearly not a good guy. A lot of people have glommed onto him. There's a weird element out there that actually kind of idolize him. I've seen some s- on Twitter and I'm like, 'Wait, What? You are missing the point entirely!'"

The concept of the character was supposed to be a dark take on Superman and asks the question, "What if Superman were a narcissistic sociopath?"

The adaptation by Amazon Prime Video takes this concept even further, as one of its showrunners admitted that the adaptation's version played by Starr is actually modeled after Donald Trump.

Homelander as a Parody of Donald Trump

During a 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, "The Boys" showrunner Eric Kripke admitted that the show's version of the villainous "superhero" really was modeled after former President Donald Trump.

"He's always been a Trump analogue for me. I'll admit to being a little more bald this season than I have in past seasons." he said when asked by the magazine about Homelander adapting Trump-style political tactics and misinformation.

For his version of Homelander, Anthony Starr stated that while the character is modeled after Trump, he said that making him too directly like the politician would make the character "two-dimensional."

However, he did point out that when Homelander killed a protester in front of his fans and those fans just cheered him on, it mirrored the former president's claims that even if he killed somebody in Fifth Avenue, his followers will still adore him.

What Is Next for 'The Boys?'

Amazon will finally release "The Boys" Season 4 very soon, though no exact premiere date has been revealed yet. The series recently released a new teaser, and it showed that the events of Season 3 will have plenty of repercussions for everyone. However, a bit of warning though, as there are a few spoilers ahead.

According to Screen Rant, Homelander is getting emboldened by the support he is getting for killing the protester. Meanwhile, his new puppet CEO Ashley Barrett is seen defending his actions while the "hero" is preparing for his upcoming trial.
