How Did Selena Quintanilla Die?
Yolanda Saldívar was responsible for the tragic death of Selena Quintanilla on March 31, 1995.
Yolanda was not only Selena's close friend but also the founder and president of her fan club, according to Music in Minnesota.
She also managed Selena Etc, two boutique stores in Corpus Christi and San Antonio, Texas.
Reports from Selena's murder trial indicate that Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., had received numerous complaints about Yolanda's mismanagement and failure to deliver items purchased by fans.
In the months leading up to Selena's death, it was discovered that Yolanda had embezzled over $25,000 from Selena's businesses.
Upon learning this, Quintanilla Jr. confronted Yolanda and instructed her to sever ties with Selena. On March 31, Selena followed Yolanda to the Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, where Yolanda was staying.
It was there that Saldivar allegedly took out a revolver from her purse and shot Selena in the shoulder during a confrontation that arose when Selena demanded proof of Yolanda's innocence.
Selena was rushed to the Corpus Christi Hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Following the shooting, Yolanda engaged in a nine-hour standoff with police and FBI agents, even making threats of self-harm.
After negotiations with specially trained professionals, she ultimately surrendered to authorities.
Yolanda was apprehended, tried, and convicted for her role in Selena's murder. In October 1995, she was sentenced to prison and is eligible for parole in 2025.

As the fan club president, Saldívar's responsibilities primarily revolved around enlisting new members and collecting membership fees.
These funds were meant to support the creation of Selena-themed merchandise and ensure that club members received updates on upcoming events and concerts.
Throughout the years, Saldívar's dedication to Selena was evident to those around her.
She amassed a significant collection of the singer's memorabilia and was known for her enthusiastic approach to fulfilling her role as the fan club president. Her passion for Selena and her music was undeniable.
